It usually boils down to the "two camps" scenario where there are those that just defend the police - even in slight of misconduct on their part, and those that defend the person shot - even when the police may - I stress "may" - have had a justifiable reason to use force OR they don't acknowledge other contributing factors on their part which had to the difficulty cops face in doing their job.

I agree. I can't even look at Facebook right now. Just hundreds of thousands of people having their own monologue, saying they unequivocally support the police, or that every police shooting is unjustified...its a complete waste of time over there.

For the record, I am not anti police by any means and understand that in MOST of these cases, the person
that was killed, played some role in the events that lead up to their demise. I also don't believe that MOST
police officers choose their career or go to work each day hoping for a chance to kill someone.

I'll just go out and say it, after rushing through this thread.

Fuck cops. Being a cop is a choice. In this country it is choosing to be complicit with a history of racist and classist violence (and homophobic and misogynist, but this week isn't about that, this week is about the very real, very justified rage that black people are feeling). Policing in America for real started as patrols of escaped slave catchers. Lets remember that. Lets remember that these police executions of black people just serve as a continuance of the history of lynchings in the United States. On my own political levels i will always hate cops because i will hate any person who chooses to wield violent, authoritative power, but even if you disagree with my politics, i ask, "Where are the cops speaking out against the racism that has been clearly displayed by their 'brothers and sisters?'" or "Where are the cops refusing to be complicit with the violence that the state has given free pass to?" People love to cite the cops who become cops to help people. I ask "how many times has a cop ever helped you? Protected you? Made you feel safe?" If the answer is more than zero you're probably living a much cushier life than many people. If you want to help people, become a nurse, an EMT, a medic, become a teacher, help your neighbors, do literally anything other than wielding a badge and a gun at people who are at their worst moments.

And fucking of course police violence hurts people other than black people, but as a white American, i will never have to contend with the history of slavery or routine, state-sponsored dehumanization that black people have had to face. We're all complicit in this. Fuck. Two men in 24 hours were executed on camera because of the color their skin. There are no buts here, there is no justification, there are no buts, Black People do not deserve genocide. I can't even.

There is an enormous difference between the actual statistics of cops shooting blacks, and what the narrative portrayed in the media is.
Media narrative of what was going on in police shootings of black people is wildly out of whack with reality.
In 2015:
50% of people shot and killed by police were white, 26% were black. You might say, but thats kind of crazy with the portion of black population being 13%, but violent crime committed by blacks is multiple, multiple times other ethnicities in the US. You can guess how that would work out.

Theres an enormous problem going on that never gets hardly any notice at all, black on black inner city crime. Maybe we had some oscar bait movies in the 90s about it, actual progress in that area? Nope. Can't talk about that...It is astounding the number of people shot in a weekend in someplace like Chicago, in black on black inner city crime. Someone is shot every two minutes in Chicago. 2,054 so far since January. Over 90% of that is inner city black on black shootings. Actually starting to address these issues in the black community would wind up bringing into question policies (and history) of the political party that benefits from this stuff. There is a very, very clear point in our history in the somewhat recent years where black education scores, employment, home ownership, and some other important metrics had been trending up, with black crime going down for about 50 years and then this *thing* happens and it all goes to shit.

Yet almost all focus on black violent deaths is from highly political publicized shootings that fit a convenient political narrative which are very much the outliers, and even in that tiny portion, most of which are justified.

I don't know how people can say that the two shootings that preceded all those cops getting shot were 'innocent people getting murdered' they may have, they might not, no one knows at this point, yet people get extremely passionate about stuff they have no information on.

The media has whipped this shit up for their own ratings, and politicians have bandwagoned on to exploit this stuff for their own petty power. Every edgelord can say fuck the popo, and then forget about that and call them when they need them...
