Unverified Instagram source: OBNE is adding expression inputs to "most" of their pedals. I'm guessing everything except the fuzz.

On the video Reverb has done during the Namm, they now all have an exp input except the fuzz.
Fuzzonaut about the RM-1N:
"Amp in a box"?
No, there's no amp in there - tone fairies and feedback goblins live inside this box.

I think this argument is really silly.

Think of it this way. As echoed before, they probably did not have 10,12+ spin settings decided on when the Black Fountain came out.
From a building standpoint, and as Alexander pointed out, to go from a simple 3 way toggle to a rotary encoder like on the BItQuest not only would require a redesign of the PCB/circuit to accommodate, but if the layout of your pedals are all mostly the same like in OBNE's case, they've certainly bought cases predrilled in bulk and aren't going to chuck them in the trash.

Another point would be this. Say they do design a pedal that uses a rotary encoder for 6 modes instead of 3- with the amount of man hours/labor/cost in just the PCB redesign/amassing new cases, they would have to probably charge a decent amount more for said pedal which would probably put the price point far left from their current offerings.

No one complains about stacking dirt or drives but when it comes to reverb delay and modulation we want an end all be all. We've been spoiled by vast multi effects like Strymon that are seemingly limitless when you get into the Timeline and Bigsky realm.

You're all welcome to call me a poser for never having tried an OBNE pedal, but sheesh guys. I don't think anyone is forcing them down your throats.

Their artwork is rad. Their aesthetic is rad, and they've spent equally as much time on their image as they have their pedals, which is refreshing. Lastly, how many other builders do you know shooting 60+ videos using their product AS WELL AS OTHER MANUFACTURERS to not only showcase their pedals, but also to show how they work with other brands. I used to not get it, but then it hit me. It's fuck genius, regardless of the product, what they have done from a business standpoint with their videos is excellent even if they become a little trite. No one else is doing it, period.

My rant is over.

I was that one guy who bought an Alexander F.13 and then thought it was RIDICULOUS that it only cost me $189, when it easily sounds better than many of my $300 pedals that do less things. :idk:

I guess I'm of the opinion that how good these things sound is the ONLY relevant argument when discussing what pedals to buy.

I guess I could always buy five Bitquests, so that I could actually use all of the different capabilities at once...but that wouldn't save me much money.

something else to think about - the spin chip does not store the programs, they are stored in an external eeprom. You could use a micro controller's memory to store the programs and send them to the fv-1. In this setup you can have hundreds of presets depending on the microcontroller. So are we saying that if an fv-1 based pedal has less than 100 programs it is not being utilized to its full potential? should ryan have made a million other modes on the bitquest for free so he could *really* get the most out of the chip?

Something else to point out -- it's a little disingenuous to claim that OBNE doesn't have a marketing plan when it comes to the design of their pedals (which are, according to that reddit thingy, mix and matched Spin ideas) in the face of their excellent marketing plan for their product. This seems like an unlikely situation to me, especially given that they were sort of birthed out of Walrus and Coffee and Riffs predates the company (iirc).

That's not throwing shade, btw, just adding shading to the painting that's coming out of the discussion. It's a super interesting avenue of discussion -- at least to me, who isn't really in the market for any of their stomps.

Their aesthetic is totally on point for the kinds of stuff they make, though. Can't fault them there.

*jealous* I really wanted to go, but spent all my summer money helping a friend get dentures. *sigh* Crazy how expensive those things are. I guess Dentists have Porsche payments to make.
