Not familiar with that podcast. I'll google it right now.

No, seriously, six times a year, my wife, baby, and I get in the car and drive from Chisasibi, QC, to Sussex, New Brunswick.

Day one: 11 hours.
Day two: 7 hours.
Day three: 10 hours.
Total: 28 hours.

Podcasts we listened to last time we undertook this drive in order of enjoyability (all were at least decent):

Serial
Lore
Welcome To Night Vale
Someone Knows Something (SKS)
Nothing To Write Home About with Matt Pryor
The Black Tapes

And, of course, The Vinyl Cafe with Stuart McLean. This is a Canadian radio show. If you haven't listened to it, your life is incomplete.

It's good. I mean... he puts his all into most of the episodes, and others he half-assed. One of them in particular he phoned in; he must've been on the road or something because the sound is awful and it was the second time he covered vampires. But the episodes that are good are really good. If you're on a long drive through woods... it's just right. Will be adapted into an Unsolved Mysteries-style anthology TV show in 2017!

That show is the Canadian Prairie Home Companion. Don't listen while driving at 4:30am. You will definitely fall asleep.

One time this drunk guy kept begging my friend to let him eat her out while she was driving. Which doesn't seem physically possible...

This is the most frequently-made, most facile, and least accurate comparison there is. Americans don't have a point of reference for it beyond Garrison Keillor. They're like, "So... this guy reads stories... on the radio... got it, he's the Canadian Garrison Keillor." It's nothing like Prairie Home Companion (nothing against that fine program); it's got a Canadian sort of edge to it, a slightly more bitter humour than that. More like David Sedaris than APHC/GK. It's a really hilarious show that's been on since the 1990s and honestly, almost every story is perfect. I have cried in a dozen of them. Also, their are sweet performances by indie musicians such as Owen Pallett of Final Fantasy/Arcade Fire/Titus Andronicus, or just nice unknowns or whatever, and phenomenal discourses on the totally amazing lives of Canadian cities. No one knows Canada better than Stuart... I'm afraid that when he dies, he'll leave no heir. He has cancer. I hear he's getting better.
