I've really been thinking about this a lot lately. I've actually been toying with the idea of selling my bass, rig and getting into sound scaping. I really love the thought of making ambient noises, but I've been a bass player for so long, it feels kind of dirty to me...

You'll probably find that the two setups serve very different creative functions. Alternatively, you could build a pretty sick WOOSHY WOOSHY NOISES setup out of flipping two or three of your fancy pedals.

Explain please. :)

You mean like the Toneczar and something else expensive? Some of them are expensive but hard to flip, which sucks. LOL.

You are right though.

I was playing guitar last night for the first time in years and could not believe how good everything I have sounds with it. It made me want to explore the guitar more and perhaps revisit effects I got rid of because they didn't work well with my bass. Crazy. I've spent all this time searching for perfect pedals for my super hot MTD and now I have a guitar and everything works brilliant with it.

I just need to learn some shit on the guitar.

Yeah, that's another reason to avoid flipping things (or at least one of the reasons I'm reticent to do so) -- there's always another context you can use the tools you already have in. TBH I feel like you could already make some really rad soundscapes with the gear you already have, you'd just need the appropriate input signal and probably a DAW to arrange/tweak things.

But when you say soundscapes, that covers a wide variety of sounds. What sort of stuff are you listening to that's making you go down this path?

Well I've been listening (big surprise) a lot of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. I love the way they can make so much awesome and relaxing music and it appears to be mostly non traditional instrument based. Now I know he uses keys, which is cool. I'd love to learn that anyway.

For example.

Of course there are many many others obviously. Just a quick song I found.

kneejerk response: BRO DO YOU EVEN COIL?

idk if you're still playing around with the idea of a Moog Mother, but that's certainly one way to approach this sort of thing (you can make modulars and synths sound like all sorts of shit) but another way to do this would be to find yourself a sampler (or an iPhone or w/e) and figure out some way to interface that with your already-existing pedalboard.

Ok. If you do that, I would really sit down with each different bit of it to figure out what makes what work -- which is how you can break it all down and make it do what you want, rather than what you saw in a demo or something.

The inevitable demos of how to make a given synth play On the Run are usually good for this  :

Thanks dude! I just listed my bass on TB and Reverb for like 3k. See that's why I'm want to move it. Do I need a 3k bass??? No. I've just been stubborn. I want a passive active bass that's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYY less money. I also want to keep my pedals and buy this sucker or two of them. hahaha

I changed my mind on the bass. I just cannot do it. I've fought and fought with myself since buying it and it's the only bass I've ever really loved.

I've decided not to make any major financial decision like this until after my show (3 weeks). I know I'm not thinking clearly.

Dude I can't wait to eat something. Anything. This whole, chicken, eggs and broccoli shit gets old. For real, that's my entire diet in a nutshell. Oh I'm sorry I get some avocado oil too. LOL

Jwar, buy my Mother 32, treat yourself, get into the electronic music game. The water is warmer over here, and it feels like every bassist i know makes the leap.
