Re: Radiohead breaking up
You know how on lots of albums tracks 6/7 act like an interlude between the good opening songs and the good closing songs and although they're sort of ok they don't really go anywhere and you find yourself skipping them most of the time? Most of this album is those songs.
You know when the lead singer in a typical rock band puts out a solo record and it tries to slow everything down, adds strings for "poignancy", and a bunch or weird bits to exhibit that he's more creative than the rest of the band? This album sounds like that. (no dig on Thom's solo stuff as I like those albums)
You know sometimes when a band puts out a hit album and then a year later they release a remix record and all the tracks are just washed-out, half-baked throwaway-idea versions of the originals? This is that album.

The string parts sound like the beatles to me and it's obnoxious. Just play your guitar, Jonny.

Haha the strings are really my only problem with it. I prefer brass section Radiohead to string section.

I really like the new Radiohead so far. Have listened to it to and from work all week so far. Not bad, but not sure how it will hold up. Afraid it might get worn out easily. First two and last song are the best imo.

Re: Radiohead breaking up
I've listened to it a couple of times and have liked it, but it hasn't made a huge impression on me yet. That's not to say that I find it "meh" or anything—I hate that word/critical route—it's more that Radiohead continue to make good records that I'll most likely always enjoy listening to, but great strides forward are few and far between these days for them. And that's ok! I feel like even their "just more Radiohead" records (this maybe being one of them) are better than probably 90% of what's out there elsewhere.
It's funny to see In Rainbows kind of universally disliked on here, although maybe "disliked" is too strong a word—maybe it's more just relegated to the bottom of your lists. I thought that one was a big leap forward for them, in the sense that I heard it and it felt like a very refreshing change. The few albums that preceded it were of course fucking great, but they were bleak, cold and paranoid. Even though In Rainbows doesn't contain my very favorite Radiohead, it felt like a watershed moment, a sort of brighter, more hopeful sound.
So if that was a peak to me, then King of Limbs was heading back down into a valley. Maybe this record's more time in the lowlands, but at the end of the day I'm still into it.

Re: Radiohead breaking up
I love In Rainbows, and agree with you about King Of Limbs. Still, even though I wasn't really into most of the songs on KOL it still felt like it was a very solid and purposeful record. I think I am reacting to my impression that this one doesn't seem to have a lot of direction and the inclusion of old (albeit unlreleased) songs feels like sort of a cop out to me.
Adding to that though -- it's only those songs that really sound like "Radiohead" to me. It's not a nostalgia trip ("they were better back then") it's just the new tunes don't have that characteristic RH groove. They have sounded different every album, but still always sounded like themselves.
Again -- I want to like this one and I hope that upon further listens it will grow on me.

After a few spins, album of the year for me *so far*. This is bound to change but it's pretty fucking good.

Its damn near impossible for me to hate Radiohead. In Rainbows was so important to me at the time and still is. This feels the same but different. Its achingly beautiful and I adore the strings. The only song I didn't like all that much was True Love Waits but I'll wait and see if it grows on me.
The king of limbs is still crap tho.

I was just waiting to see if Pitchfork liked it before I formed an opinion.
