Are you looking for plants or seeds? I'd start spinach from seeds. It'll grow so fast and it doesn't mind a little cold weather.space6oy wrote:so the lowes where i've so far gotten this year's gear since it's 2 min from my house doesn't have anything too fancy aside from 8 billion tomatoes. no spinach, that blows. only had one flat of lavendar and it's empty.

Re: who's startin' to grow?!
oh really? i've just been doing starters so far. about half planted until i pick up more - 5 tomatoes, 4 peppers, 2 lettuces (why i figured spinach would be in starters), 2 strawberries. still have herbs and red onions.
i'll have to read up on growing spinach, i haven't before...

Re: who's startin' to grow?!
I use seeds for green beans, peas, spinach, lettuce, and sometimes zucchini. Lettuce, spinach, kale and peas can be planted early because they can handle some cold weather (tomatoes and peppers can't at all). They also have really short germination periods.
I always buy tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and herbs in starters. Onions will do best if you buy the starter sets - so will potatoes.
I am cheap, so I do as much myself as I can or I'd spend hundreds and hundreds every year.

I planted it last year, left it outside in the Swiss winter, wasn't too sure about that - but, no problem at all.
The one I got was advertised as being able to do self-fertilization.

Re: who's startin' to grow?!
We bought a house last summer, and the lady who sold it had a real green thumb. Both front and back yard are fully irrigated, we have a rosemary bush as big as a car, almond trees, peach trees, several well developed rose bushes, and my favorite, a 20ft row in back with three different types of grapes.
Now, obviously we can't take any credit for it, but we have been keeping it up. Last year we had more grapes than we could eat, and the vines are already fully leafed out and packed with baby grape clusters. Super excited. My wife also repurposed some of the raised beds for tomatoes, cilantro, bell peppers, and other things I can't recall.
And we just planted a pomegranate tree.

Current state of affairs.
Tomatoes are out of control and way too crowded already

Parsley, cilantro, peppers, oregano and thyme

Grapes. Maybe they'll use the fence. I dunno

After 3 years I finally have some apples (fuji). The other two trees didn't fare as well.

Blueberries. Birds always get them.

Figs. Yum.
