Granular ring mod:

(Well, granular carrier at least...not really even, micro looper). But it is possible. Sorry to post that vid again.
The size is what's got me...if he is using something like a pt2399 chip or even a 512 stage bbd, it is too small (especially with point to point like Chankgeez has said).
Doing parallel stuff isn't granular but you can get it to track (because it is just multiplying your signal against itself).

I'm curious if it's truly PTP or if it's on vero/perf and being described as PTP, like a lot of people doChankgeez wrote:Yeah, it didn't sound too bad. I liked that demo.
I doubt he's using a chip if it's "point-to-point".![]()

It is on a perf board http://i42.tinypic.com/35lhly1.jpg

Still curious to how this thing functions.... And how, in any way, it is granular.

It sounds alike that idea that I've been mentioning every time the subject of ring mods shows up. The whole pitch shifted signal thing. Altough this just sounds like a single repeat delay being used as the carrier.
I still want a ringmod whose carrier is a pll'd version of the input.

I've tried it several times...it's iffy functionally. I think partially due to tracking lag on the pll side, balancing issues, and too complex of a carrier (which lessens the traditional ring mod sound and it kinda comes out mediocre).Inconuucl wrote:It sounds alike that idea that I've been mentioning every time the subject of ring mods shows up. Tried with the mutron octae divider, moog freq box, harmonic decoder, and a few others to record you a video (once you mentioned it in the ring mod thread). By far the best results have been with micro samplers like the revolver. The CT5 worked OK too. I haven't figured out the right mix as of yet for the PLLs and dividers to sound good...but getting there.
Also, the further away the tracked and shifted signal is away from the original, the less it will be related. The closer (like same octave different waveform) will give you more waveshaping).
It might just be better and more functional to do something like a drone note from a stereo kinda guitar/sitar.
I've been working the heck outta these angles for the right mix for a project...it is a tough, trial and error, road haha.

Isn't what you are describing the Vitruvian Ring Mod?

Listened again...I think this thing is a mix of the Hysteresis mod/thermal wave and parasit corruptor. I think it uses the cd4046b pll to track/oscillate for a carrier. It sounds like there is some envelope control in the decay like the thermal wave (the stutter when the notes decay).
Maybe he then goes to a ad633 gate for some IC balanced mod? I dunno? But those kinda FM pedals can sound similar.
That is my thought as of now...I'll see when I get it.

I think it sounds pretty good. Especially with that fuzz. Man. It doesn't look super tweakable but it has some good textures. I'll wait for more demos though.

Octave divider as carrier (in some parts, other parts is just the signal ring modded to itself).
