I don't understand what is granular about it? Still is cool though (and I added it to the RM thread so I don't forget)...will find out when I get it haha.

Ad copy from he website:
"Unhinge your instrument the way you’ve always envisioned. Motormatic uses old school synth technology and pushes it over the edge, providing beautifully bizarre and erratic pitch to your conventional tone. Use it on guitar, bass, drum machine, or an entire mix to detach ordinary audio from reality.
Motormatic is point-to-point hand wired, with no printed circuit board. True bypass, lead-free solder, and U.S.A. parts whenever possible. It operates at 9vdc on a industry standard negative center, 2.1 barrel regulated power supply. It includes a full-lifetime warranty."

Re: Recovery Effects - Motormatic 'granular ring mod'
Granular implies some level of sampling right? If it had random pitch via something like sample and hold it wouldn't be granular...
I dunno? Maybe he is using some kind of delay chip?
I will report my findings when I get it (ordered it before this thread haha...money burning a hole in my pocket...plus I've gotten rid of like 14 pedals this month...).
Worth a shot I guess?

Yeah, it didn't sound too bad. I liked that demo.
I doubt he's using a chip if it's "point-to-point".
"Granular", in this case, may just be a buzz word.

He does point to point with the pt2399... It's possible (and even I have done it haha).
I think it is just a buzz word too. Odd choice though. For such a small pedal, I will be it is a sample and hold circuit..which is totally cool by me.

Re: Recovery Effects - Motormatic 'granular ring mod'
Oh, I know it's possible, it just doesn't seem like it'd be "fun" to build that way.

Re: Recovery Effects - Motormatic 'granular ring mod'
Granular pretty much must be a buzz word here. It means to splice up samples to such tiny parts that they start sounding like something else entirely. And that is something a ring modulator just can't achieve.
But I do understand where he's coming from with the name. Especially in the last part of the video when he put drum machine through it the sound is pretty similar. That weird brittle sound makes me think of granular sampling too. So yeah, it's not technically accurate but does work as a sound description.
It sounds a little like the weird brother to the Vitruvian Ring Mod to me. It seems to track along the notes it receives but not so clean as the Vitruv does. So yeah, t sounds really frigging good and it's tiny too! I'd love to try this one day.

Re: Recovery Effects - Motormatic 'granular ring mod'
If it's using a pt2399 with very short delay time and long decay, I guess you coooould argue that it's a bit like granular synthesis (as it grabs the signal), even if it definitely isn't, haha. Paired with a ring mod, it does, as others have stated, give a granular feel of sorts. I thought it sounded pretty neat with a drum machine, so I might pick one up as Eivind is in the process of selling the Robotum I've been borrowing for that very thing. $149 isn't too bad either. Plus, simple controls for a simple man.

Dude makes some great pedals, still pretty pissed off that my Bad Comrade is kinda broked, though

I cordially invite you to fuck right off and let the rest of us talk about music like adults.- dubkitty
