Yea, the possible mistracking seems to add a sort of tape warble like sound. I dig the Mel9 all around.

Ordered one today to use with a Reface CP and some other keyboards. Also, I have to say that the Mel9 more than holds its own in this head-to-head comparison.

Anyone yet stuck one inside their SuperEgo's effects loop?

stuff like this is cool but I know I'll always feel like I should just be playing the same sounds on a keyboard that probably costs around the same as this pedal does new. the tracking and polyphony limitations seem to be intrinsic to this line of pedals, the same reasons I sold my POG2, as well as the "clicky" sound zooooombiex pointed out (thx for that super in depth review btw!). also the brass and sax I thought sounded awful.

Brass with full attack knob (slowest attack) has been my go to on the pedal. Sax is interesting at low mix but I'd say is the weakest link (if there has to be one)

I would agree...the sax sound is merely "pretty good". Everything else is well beyond that. This pedals glitchiness is extremely endearing. The tape warble on the release of notes adds such a deep dimension to what's happening it's surprising.

For jazz chord-melody playing it's astoundingly good with the mix down so you can hear the clean guitar cutting thru. The pedal just plays along in the background and sounds spectacular, even on complex chords that sound garbled when the dry signal is missing... With the dry signal playing over I notice no glitching anymore.

I'm really not a fan of EHX pedals in general...but on a few occassions they have just nailed it.

Oh my. I finally got around to sticking the MEL9 in the loop of the Superego. I was rewarded for my effort. Unlike just playing thru the MEL9, when thru the loop of the Superego, it's no longer playing exactly what you're playing and trying to duplicate it. Instead, it is playing soft halos around your music, in any of the various MEL9 voices. In auto mode you can adjust the volumes on the MEL9 to mix back in some of the Superego synth if you like or just go full one way or the other. The dry on the Superego is still the volume of your guitar, and the effect volume on the Superego is now the overall volume of the mix you set on the MEL9. With the speed and gliss set right on the Superego can get auto mode to the point where you can easily control when the synth voices play and do not play, and the Superego imparts a subtle reverb to whatever voice you have haloing your guitars notes. It is magnificent.

Thought I'd bump in and share that I saw High On Fire a few days ago... Got a glimpse of Matt's board, and he had a Key 9 or Mel 9 or something.

That is actually pretty cool. The only one of these pedals that even remotely enticed me was the C9. But i too would rather just fuxk with synths. But i would love to know what High on Fire did with a Mel9.

Sounds like they might actually start playing shit like Dii live:

But if they've got other new things to do with it, that'd be rad as fuck.

I hadn't even thought of that song. Primarily listen to blessed black wings/surrounded by thieves. Those were the albums when i was more into their music. Should give later stuff more listens at work tomorrow.

Death is... Follows in those footsteps and expands on the Middle Eastern influence a bit. Then the more recent offerings get more straight up thrashy kookcore. Epic riffs abounds throughout.
