The worst drivers are consistently in BMWs or SUVs of any make. By rule.

If you want to see some of the most unflattering behavior in mankind, put a human behind the wheel of an automobile in/around a metropolitan area. Worldwide.
People think the law doesn't apply to them, "me-first, you-wait" is the rule.
People also are quick to acknowledge how universally pushy & impatient drivers are "but it's different with me!"
Is it now?
My old man put it like this: "Trying to save a few minutes can cost you hours, days, weeks, months, years of your life"

13 years driving in NJ & NY and I have not yet received a moving violation :hobbes:
I mostly stay right but will drive in the passing lane if no one is behind me, moving with traffic, keep it under 80.
When someone is creeping up I'll move over when it's safe.
If someone's being pushy and tailgates or immediately flashes highbeams I take my sweet time getting over. So sorry to inconvenience you :p

My general driving philosophy is to avoid using the brake pedal, instead using situational inertia. Obv highway but local too (signs & signals notwithstanding).
Similarly, anyone whose impatient driving directly causes me to use the brake pedal is a douchebag on wheels.

limit: 65mph
you: doing 75mph in left lane, right lane full of cars
guy comes up on you

do you bother slowing down to wiggle your way into the right lane, then back out?

Or do you just pass cars in the left lane until the road opens up a bit to pull to the right and let the guy pass?
I'll speed up to put some distance between myself and the driver who wants to go faster than I and move over and slow down. I consider it common courtesy (something that is seriously lacking in peoples driving styles these days).

The passing lane is for passing. As soon as I pass slower traffic I get in the middle or travel lane and stay there until I need to pass again. That's how you drive.

I will say that I think a lot of people in this part of the country treat passing lanes as travel lanes because the passing lanes are a lot less rutted. Still need to GTFO of my way when I come roaring up on you.

I got rear-ended by a BMW SUV about two months ago. The driver and his hideous trophy wife got out, tried to give me money not to properly report the accident, called my car a piece of shit, and proceeded to lament that it was going to "take all damn day" to wait for the police officer.

I smiled and told him that
"despite my also having things to do, i like to ensure that ill actually arrive on time by driving my piece of shit car in a way that keeps me from slamming into all the other vehicles around me. Of course that doesnt take into account fuckwits in BMWs that are just too important to differentiate between a car that is in motion and one that is stopped. So i guess we will both be late today. "
I may or may not have omitted several "motherfucker"s and a "suck my fucking cock" or two.

I find Audi Drivers to be a particularly frustrating bunch as well.

It also occurs to me that Prius drivers have no interest in business of driving.
