Thinking of getting into D&D, should I really though?

I've already got hundreds of hours of playtime on Skyrim and I feel like pretending I'm actually in a fantasy realm is the next step on the ladder.

It all depends on the people you want to play with and whether you have lots of free time or not. I used to do lots of tabletop RPGs when I was a student with a few groups of friends but there's no way I'd have the time to do that now, for example. But yeah, with good friends it's super fun.

I've always wanted to, but I'd have to be able to drink heavily and not take it entirely seriously.

I'd wouldn't fuck up our team or anything, but I'd need a Hollywood Squares-esque fake answer right away.

I started playing once with some internet friends with one of those dice roll generation things, some D&D map thing, and Google hangouts. Doesn't seem like what you're after (how I did it, I mean), but it was a lot more fun than I thought I'd have. Sadly, I didn't start hailing Satan or listening to loads of extreme metal tho.

Check out Lamentations of the Flame Princess. It is 70's Satanic Panic D&D by way of Black Metal and bad weed. I love it. Magic is always twisted. There are human sacrifices and and and everything I ever wanted.

I really like it, but finding a group willing to have new players or a group that doesn't get all rank and petty can be pretty frustrating.

Want to make a Fighter with Dexterity and Alchemy and go all Witcher.

Nah, Chaotics have ruined every group that i've been in. I think that It would be cool if you can bend the rules slightly to have a bit more of a functional group and playing Neutral Good makes everything easier. Channelling my inner Geralt.

I had a pretty good run doing the D&D 5th Edition beta testing with a Chaotic Neutral Cleric. She was a drunkard whose only friend was the severed head of a saint that she lashed onto a club and used as a mace. As long as she had food, booze, and the occasional tumble with a stable boy, she was happy.
