Getting married this summer. We'll have been together for three and a half years at that point. I can't wait!

And if you don't, at least shed a tear. I did not, and it has been something I have been made to regret.skullservant wrote:You will cry. It will happen. I didn't think it would and then I lost it and was hysterical
But yeah, mawwiage is a great thing. Amps come and go. Money is not important, anyway, unless there are kids involved...
Good luck, and congrats!

For sure. I'd do the same thing for the misses if she wanted to.oscillateur wrote: Yeah, I was in the same boat, I didn't plan to get married at all before. But society is a bit different in Japan and it was more important for my wife so I went along to make her happy, basically.

Re: Marriage
We got married in October and it was seriously awesome. Tried to keep it as simple and inexpensive as possible without being cheap as if we were going to do it we wanted it to be a day we could enjoy and be proud of. Did our best to only invite our closest friends and family instead of the crazy blowouts people seem to throw these days. Good food, good drinks, and a string trio!
I spent a lot of time freaking out on the planning and prep but wasn't nervous at all the day of which surprised the hell out of me. Didn't shed a tear, but I always dry up around people. Best decision of my life.
Congrats to you and good luck!

Re: Marriage
My wife and I have been together for 15 years and married for 13 this year. Still in love, still happy and have three wonderful little girls too boot.
Marriages has it's ups and downs. It's not easy for sure. I've had points where I wasn't sure if it'd last, but it did and we are stronger for it.
Now, I'm very, very grateful for my wife and children. I can't imagine life without them. They complete who I am. I know that sounds sappy and cliche, but it's true. I'm nothing without them.
The wedding. Don't over think it man. Do what your soon to be wife wants, regardless of your thoughts. I spent over 10k on my wedding, which actually is cheap compared to some of the ones I've been too. It was worth it. I'd do it all again if I could, but I'd do it a bit different.
Do what makes you happy. Fuck the money. Money is worthless compared to a meaningful relationship.
Have fun.

That'd be pretty funny if ILF crashed your wedding.

Congrats, fella. I echo what the others folks have said.
Have you lived together? Reason I ask is because my wife and I did not beforehand. I think that sharing a relatively small space was the biggest adjustment for me. Requires a lot of compromise, especially being married to a woman who needs her 'Scandinavian alone time'.
Our ceremony was as secular as one could be (in US). Courthouse, $10 cash (which I didn't have, so a friend paid for my wedding), Champagne and cheesecake on the shore of Lake Michigan afterward in a park. All told cost a few hondo.

Re: Marriage
I'm all for the ILF good feels threads. This one's excellent.
I didn't think I was ever going to get married until I met my current girlfriend. After a while together it became abundantly clear that with her, I was all for the idea. Hasn't happened yet, but it will. Best feeling.

Futuresailors got engaged a couple of months ago!
The lady wants something luxuriant, and it's only a like a couple hundred bucks to have a ceremony at a castle round these parts, so fuck it. "Planning" sucks though.
Probably doing Iceland for the honeymoon (thanks other thread). Basic plan is rent a cottage and hike around. but I'm an asshole and am totally going to crowdsource to make a parts unknown style travelogue/ vlog. Cuz even if I weren't me, I'd want to see me eat rotten shark, drink, and hunt puffins.

Re: Marriage
Marriage is super good.
We had a cheapo wedding and it was awesome. Civil ceremony on the beach and then restaurant later. Only immediate family were present.
We'd decided not to get married. Worked good for years. Then one day we decided to get married. I can't really explain why, and I can't fully explain why I like being married. But now that's worked good for years too.

What?! So all the big shots here on ILF are married? I thought pedals and gear were for filling up the lack of love in your life! :P
Also, congrats Casavettes (and everyone else, although I'm a bit late on that)!
