It's my girlfriends 30th coming up and Placebo is her absolute favourite band, if I could get something signed by him that'd be fucking awesome and I would give you a pedal/internet head if you pulled through for me.
My wife said that she used to write letters (you know, paper and pens) and that worked a lot. But that was the early nineties so
Her other tip was not to write to the band's manager but some other manager, like artist relations at the record company or something. Rely on their random sentimentality.

That’s quarter-assed at best.
Just happened to see a post on Instagram that announced a new world tour -- probably means they're pretty busy at the moment, but maybe you can work tickets and backstage somehow??
Hey, here's a shameless hijack. What the fuck was Placebo's other 'big' single?
There's Pure Morning and Every You and Every Me, of which neither is the song I'm thinking of. This is like an alt rock radio staple, but I'm not familiar with the band enough to come up with it on my own and they have like 12 records (?!)

Long shot, but for what it's worth I think he's on the Radcliffe and Maconie show one day next week on BBC6Music. No idea what day. Could get in touch with the show I guess?
Nancy Boy and Teenage Angst were pretty big singles in their early days. Saw these guys a few times back in the day and they were amazing. Lost me on that third album though. First two are incredible!
