Man, the Rene is so fucking cool. I can't wait to start clocking it with the Pamela's Workout, but the Wogglebug makes a fine alternative so far.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
That is the sort of shit that still doesn't make sense to me, "John on Instagram."
I have more controller questions. Lets review where I'm at (mostly so I can remember and also because I basically have nothing to do at work today)
Ok, so, keeping in mind that I'm more of the mind of bringing in external samples/synths/sound sources and manipulating them, rather than relying on this box to generate tones on its own, the other thing that keeps this interesting (to me) is the tactile control aspect over parameters (see the joystick). Makes more sense to my stupid brain than twisting knobs and assigning inputs to lfos, etc.
If you think, like our homie Inc., that the joystick is a waste of space, I'm pretty inclined to say, sure. The lightplane was suggested earlier, and while that's cool, that doesn't necessarily fit into the box that I've got (and I have no rush to upgrade that since, as we know, space is expensive). If I was to pop the joystick off, I'd want something standalone/tabletop that I could use to manipulate X and Y or other functions (i.e. the ribbon I asked about earlier). What're my options (save DIY) if I want some standalone boxes to control things like that?

I honestly have no idea what the standalone options for something like that are, although I would be pretty interested in something with a few joysticks.
Now that I think about it though, you could buy a Pittsburgh Cell 48, 2xIntellijel Planars, and a Make Noise Pressure Points and have a pretty sweet, although expensive, "standalone" option

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I mean if it comes to brass tacks I suppose I could fabricate boxes for things like the Lightplane fairly easily (although I have no idea how I'd power it) just wanted to probe the braintrust and see what was out there.
And, yeah, that's a nice bit of kit you've mapped out but damn that price point.
Double also modulation wheels are cool, but a little less hands on than what I'm looking for, if that makes sense?
Fucking Triple also: I don't know that I'm sold on the Clouds, even though I think it's a great bit of kit I typically do that sort of time stretching/granular stuff in Ableton. It looks like I have enough space to swap that (and the joystick) out directly for the Pressure Points -- with about 10hp left over -- which would be rad (yay tactile controls), but then I might have too much control, relative to the rest of the setup? Does that make sense? Ideas? Thoughts? Am I stupid?
Am I evil?

I mean, the Planar looks like a good upgrade over that Doepfer joystick since it double as a weird ass mixer, but it's priced more than the joystick and pressure points.
I love my Clouds, but if you do granular shit in Ableton you can replace the Clouds with anything else to fuck with your signal.

The only thing off the top of my head is the Snazzy FX Wow and Flutter.
I know Mutable has a slew of releases lined up for this year, so pick up bits and pieces along the way until you find something.

Yeah, the Sewastopol is inbound as of this morning (just kidding, fucking Paypal 'review') so hopefully I'll get a better idea of the kinds of things I still need shit to be doing when I have this box talking to my other boxes.

Is that flame synth still not up for grabs?

D.o.S. : have you considered getting a Koma Kommander ? Small, rlatively cheap and can be quite nice as a live controller. Works with pedals too.

Also, if you have 4HP left, a Radio Music is a great way to always have cool sounds to process with the rest of your modules. Really great module, you can do so much with it.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I have to admit I don't use mine (Kommander) as much as I should, but it's a really nice thing to have. Can be super expressive depending on how you use it. And it's small so you can always have it next to your modular/pedals.
Btw, they're usually out of stock between batches so if you want one and no shop has them, send a mail to the Koma people. That's what I did.
