Yeah it's looking like that Europa is probably a no go for me. The seller isn't exactly being forthcoming with info, which I don't think is a very good sign. I did some research last night on sourcing the missing glass and seats; not cheap. So even if the chassis is miraculously rust free, I don't think it's in the budget.

That should always be everyone's first automotive priority.

I think that's what I am doing if we have a kid. Already got the wife on board!

CHEVY II, here I come (or whatever I can actually afford). haha.

Those wagons are cool, but I think I'm going to hold out for something tiny and British (or maybe Japanese ).

I'm thinking an MG Midget would be perfect for me. Parts are cheap and easily found, at least compared to a Lotus Europa.

I love the look of this Midget that's listed on my local CL. Those fender mounted mirrors and the luggage rack are just awesome :omg:

It's out of my budget, but it's not like I need a fully restored car anyway. The right car at the right price will pop up one of these days.

Yep, that one looks sweet. Looks to be in good shape too.

How does the wiring on those hold up by where you are?

Good question on the wiring, hadn't thought about that. I'd assume as well as the wiring on any 40 year old British car.

We do use road salt here, but not all that often. So BC cars aren't usually as well preserved as something from Southern California, but not nearly as bad as something from the Northeast.

There was an ad posted for another Midget near me last night; it doesn't look as nice as the one I posted above but it's not far off. And it's considerably cheaper. So I've contacted the owner and I'm going to check it out this weekend.

Good answer. Looks like the wiring on that one probably's been upgraded anyway.

I've decided to pass on that Midget. I checked it out this morning, and it has some issues. It needs a new top and new tires, as well as a serious tuneup at the least. It was barely driveable. The paint was also pretty poor up close, it's been resprayed at some point and has a lot of orange peel, chips, and some rust bubbling.

With the price difference between a fully restored Midget and a somewhat shabby one like this being relatively small, I just don't think it makes sense to buy a shabby one.
