Has anyone used the Copperphone through pedals or anything like that? I'm using a harmonica mic for that stuff now but this looks way more interesting.

BoatRich, if you are looking to use the Copperphone or (any other passive mic for that matter) with guitar pedals get the Synapse Vocal Integrator by Revival Electric:

It's the best method for running passive microphones into guitar pedals as it properly matches impedance and allows you to pass the signal through as many pedals as you want via the FX loop. It also has a mix knob (great for when using a distortion pedal) and an engage/disengage switch. Another bonus... it has a ground lift switch! In the link I posted be sure to check out the videos found at the bottom of the page... good demonstrations on how the pedal works can be found there.

Noted. I only just recently discovered the Mixing Link because I've wanted a preamp to blend an on-stage condenser with a banjo pickup. I'll definitely keep the synapse in mind in the future; I just need phantom power.

Ah well then the Mixing Link may be the option for you as the Revival Electric Synapse as it is now is only for passive microphones. However I know Travis from Revival Electric is working on a new version of the Synapse and if I understood him correctly, it will power condenser mics. Give Travis a shout and ask him about it... Maybe you can help beta test his new version when the time comes? Travis can be reached at:

I own a couple of Placed Audio mics (Copperphone & Mini Harmonica). Joel Hamilton turned me onto them years ago. Great mics made by a really cool dude!

Hey Mark,

Out of sheer coincidence, the day after this thread was posted, I spontaneously met with the owner of a closing studio and managed to pick up an older Copperphone. I've since A/B'ed basically every instrument I own with it, and I just wanted to say thanks for making something that really inspires creativity. Aside from banjo (the reason I was interested in one in the first place,) my favorites so far have been bowed dulcimer and native american flute; both sound haunting and awesome. Thanks again!

CollectEclectic, ah nice! Glad to hear you finally got your hands on a Copperphone... I hope it continues to inspire creativity for you.! I'd love to hear the native American flute if you have a sample... Can you please post? I can honestly say, that is one instrument I haven't heard through the Copperphone yet!

Moving this discussion over from the GAS thread. I appreciate the quick build time on this mic as we discussed.

I read that article, and I gotta say I think that guy is kind of an...I don't even know how to describe him. Elitist? Snob? Douche? Whichever the answer is, the comment below, to me, embodies everything that is wrong with the music industry, and by extension, people in general.

Why wouldn't I record a whole song with it? Because it wouldn't fit into your narrow view of what music "should" sound like? It is a bit arrogant to tell me what I would and wouldn't do with my own music.

Anyway, looking forward to getting the mic and recording a whole album with it. Mike Metlay be damned.
