It's not that different than making a pedalboard.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I've already had to fix one jack, and it's another reason I want all the Roland FX - the jacks on them are so much tougher than the eurorack standard, and will never loosen from regular use. They feel the opposite of delicate, and say 'use and abuse me' instead of 'take it easy', and it's a huge relief, so I want to get as much of that into my rig as possible.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I actually have been doing modular stuff for like a bit over a year or maybe more I can't remember anymore. I did Nord modular shit (which I now have a G2 which I adore). I tried eurorack twice but always felt the price/quality/aesthetics to me were not aligned. A really awesome pedal with great art work, good enclosure, and quality jacks for 200-300 dollars but a tiny 6 hp oscillator with not much going on for 225-300. Then when I used modular grid and realized that I would have to spend anywhere between 2500-5000 to get a 6U or so going was daunting. Especially considering that it was all 1/8th jacks which are notorious for breaking/going bad, I couldn't justify it. I also have a problem with the saturation in the market, not the people but the products. So much shit that in the end it's hard to choose anything at all.
I ended up selling it. I'm not doing MU which looks aesthetically pleasing and uniform, has 1/4" jacks/cables so it's easier to interface, the price ratio is the same as euro but you get a big beautiful panel and utility modules like mults/attenuators/etc are so cheap. The lack of options allow my stuff to be more focused and sitting around reading description after description of modules is absolutely boring after a while and frustrating sometimes. That's why I personally enjoy serge/buchla/MU it does what it does well, and with a lot less options it's easier to focus on what you'll need without all the extra noise. Oh and a lot of eurorack dudes are douchey and the amount of modular techno at Knobcon killed it for me.

Haha I actually don't understand that either ironically enoughoscillateur wrote:Hahah, talking about market saturation on a forum dedicated to dirt pedals...
oh and the TGP of the synth world is gearslutz. The electronic music area is an absolute shit show of elitism and nostalgia over bygone eras of dance/electronic music. Muffwigglers is so helpful there is so much theory involved in certain threads and it's lovely.
Oh and here are some helpful synth stuff.

Definitely I'm more into science, theory, and practice talk though!

This is very cool. Would like to build a lightplane into a standalone controller box, I thnk.dub wrote:DoS
The soundmachines lightplane, and the lightstrip are affordable and useful controllers.
The lightplane gives you the x & y outputs of a joystick plus pressure sensitivity and can record and playback short recordings.
They're working on new versions at the moment with a few improvements too.

If I get any birthday money I might use it to finally start my rig.

Yeah Erica makes hot boxes.
Eowaves has a cool standalone box (the titan) but I'm not sure if it's still being made.

Oh, hey, update:D.o.S. wrote:I like that guy.If Chris doesn't approve, perhaps EAR can just name their module something else and remove mention of Chris and TG from their website.
more thoughtsNSFW: show
http://www.endangeredaudioresearch.com/ ... pre-built/The Endangered Audio Research Gristleizer Eurorack module Pre-Order is over! Thank you to all who bought one of our limited-run Gristleizers.
This was the last of EAR’s Gristleizers — that’s right, they’re all gone! We are ceasing our production of The Gristleizer.
We do have a few remaining classic Tabletop kits*, but once those are gone, they will be gone for good.
We have many new products in store for 2016, including an expanded AD4096, as well as many other effect and modular synth products.
and an update to that update:
http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2016/ ... ck-module/Note: Gristleizer creator Chris Carter left us feedback via the comments that he is not associated with this module in any way:
“I can categorically state that the use of the name ‘The Gristleizer’ is not condoned or endorsed by me and/or Throbbing Gristle. Of course they might sound fabulous… or complete shite. But I wouldn’t know as I haven’t heard them.”
Looks like any interested parties will just have to look toward Carter's TG version. I count myself as one of those.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I haven't seen too much integration with guitar that I thought was cool, but this is pretty interesting. Anyone know what's going on here?

It seems like he's using external audio in with a delay and then he starts a sequencer and modulates the delay. Does anyone see/hear something different?
