Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
You need modulation. The Clouds sucks if it doesn't have a couple of modulation sources.
The Disting could do some modulation but I would look for something that could do at least 2 functions at once. Also, a Wogglebug or some random would be good for a little character on some of the modulation.

Care to walk me through this one because I'm still in a default mode of thinking too linearly for this format (I think). So you're talking about modulation to the Clouds itself, rather than to the signal prior to it hitting the Clouds, right?
Totally open to suggestions here, b/c there are definitely facets to this that I'm not giving enough attention to.

Yeah, like LFOs or function generators. Maths would be an obvious solution, but you're already out of space there.D.o.S. wrote:Care to walk me through this one because I'm still in a default mode of thinking too linearly for this format (I think). Yea, just get some LFOs, like the Xaoc Quad LFO I don't remember the name of. Anything to modulate the various parameters on the Clouds.

It's like pedalboard planning all over again. Ew, I'm turning into Goroth.Inconuucl wrote:Yeah, like LFOs or function generators. So it looks like pulling out the panels and ditching the sequencer would give me enough space for the Xaoc. I really hate to monopolize this thread with these questions, but assuming that's the case, this should be something to work towards? Until the inevitable dissatisfaction kicks in and I'm swapping things out, ofc.

I mean, I feel like that joystick is a waste of space that's better done with an outside controller. But you do you man, the module b/s/t community is as active as the pedal one, for better or for worst.D.o.S. wrote:It's like pedalboard planning all over again. Re: Can we talk about modular synths?

Here's what I have in mind right now, was going to splurge on an elements, but then I I thought to start with the rings which is smaller while still achieving that glitchy weird alien acoustic sound I want. Then I can get the Elements and either keep both or sell the rings.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Oooh. Fancy.
Well that's the bitch of it, right, I'm not married to any of it (save the Grendel) at this point, and 86'ing the joystick gives me enough space for the Maths (which is hot shit), but I can't seem to find an appropriate replacement as far as outside controllers go. Suggestions, as always, are welcome.Inconuucl wrote: I mean, I feel like that joystick is a waste of space that's better done with an outside controller. You know, a standalone CV joystick shouldn't be hard to build, right? Isn't the joystick just two potentiometers? Maybe ask around in the DIY parts of both here and Muffwiggler.D.o.S. wrote:Oooh. Fancy.

If I wasn't totally useless when it comes to DIY, sure.
With deeper pockets I'd swing for this beast

Also stackable cables whaaaaaaat. That shit is rad.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
@D.o.S. these are all just suggestions, but personally I would drop the mixer, the Pittsburgh Dual Index, and the blanks and I would add the following:
- Pittsburgh LFO2: small, compact dual LFO. I feel like you're planning on doing more wiggling with your hands so I don't think you really need a complex modulation source like the Batumi or Maths (yet). Plus you'll also be able to use the Sewastopol as an envelope follower for another mod source
- Intellijel uVCA II: I don't mean to keep mentioning this one, it's just smaller than the Pittsburgh one and allowed me to fit more things in
- Malekko Mix 4: probably all the mixing you'd need in a tiny package
- Malekko Noise: a really nice noise source (pairs well with Rings) in a tiny package. Also fills up the annoying 3hp gap left by the Mix 4; I'm OCD like that

Hey now everyone I was planning on PMing has responded -- and I haven't had to clear out my inbox to do it. Thanks for bearing with my hijack, all.

Yup! Same here, If you see some of the builds I had earlier in this thread...resincum wrote:not a hijack at all.. I'm learning tons watching you go through this. over here planning like..

I just need to get my board stable enough to start buying modular stuff.
