I'm not really a photography nerd but I used to be into manual focus lenses (old Voigtlander, etc.) with a Canon crop DSLR. I gave that one to my mother (I still have a Voigtlander 40mm f2 Ultron to sell though) and have been using a Sony RX100 for the past 2 or 3 years, which is a surprisingly nice little thing. Great sensor, nice lens, small enough to be carried everywhere.

I would like to get myself a Fuji XT-10 and their 35mm 1.4, but I have too many planned expenses to make it happen soon enough I think.

Not a nerd either, at least anymore.

I used to take some photo classes like more than 10 years ago. I used an old Canon TX with no light meter, it was a bargain ($20) so I couldn't pass.
Because of the broken light meter I had to figure the right f and shutter speed to use according to the ISO I was using (although I tried to stick to 100) and the sun light available, I made a small table that I used as a cheat sheet when I started to go wild on the streets.
Most of my pictures were chosen for an exhibition but I didn't show up because I had to pay some of the stuff that I couldn't pay during the courses lol.

Film processing and printing was the most funny thing IME.

Now I just have a Nikon D70 that I barely use.

Yeah, you need to carry a camera with you for it to make sense. At least for me, as I'm more into taking photos of whatever interesting thing I see on a given day. DSLR are just too big for me. That's why I want to get an XT-10 + one good lens. That's the maximum size I can carry easily most days.

DSLR make my job possible...one of my professors in college did freelance for 25 years when film was still used...blows my mind. I love film for making art, but with the deadlines and shit I have now...oh man. Digital just makes it so much easier.

It's also interesting how people assume "big camera = good camera". It's true sometimes, but people go "hey, sweet camera!" not having any idea how much of a pain in the ass it can be..

My favorite camera is my 1950s Roleicord Twin Lens reflex.

I have a little Ricoh GRIV now. Sweet little camera.

I haven't taken many pictures in a long time though :(

My favorite stuff was using tachihara 4x5s (for color) and 8x10s (black and white). That stuff cost so much money but was so awesome when you made a big ass print with them.

For stuff I liked to look at/copy/ripoff, I liked:

Im thinking about getting into it more, as it really interests me. Although im finding my phone to be able to take some great pics. Maybe we can have this thread as a show your favourite pics sort of thing aswell? I love seeing other peoples pictures with details on how they got the shot and what they used etc

I took this panoramic pic with my Nexus 6 on the golf course a few months back:

I haven't put stuff in there in ages (the latest ones are from 2011, a bit after the earthquake) but I still have a few things on Flickr. I'm actually wondering if there's something better to put your own photos online.

There are some old ones I still quite like in the lot though...

Yashica's are cool. I had several over the years. The Minister III was probably my favorite.

I was really into photo in college, took several b&w, color, alternative process classes. I was particularly into shooting medium format on Mamiya RZs that I could check out from my school. Also shot tons of 35 on the Olympus OM-1 that I learned on... it was pretty much perfect in terms of being bare-bones manual. Analog photo kinda fell by the wayside for me when I graduated though, as it wasn't my main area of focus and I no longer had access to all of the awesome darkroom goodies.

Since then I've gotten more into digital, and am overdue for a new camera. I really want a Nikon D750, just waiting for the time when I have that kind of money to spare (might not be for a while, as I'm planning on moving to Chicago this year).

I feel like my gear lust swings back and forth between guitar gear and photography gear.

I loved all that fuji digital stuff, but my life changed when I got the Sony a7R. As a guy who cares mostly about still-life and things that don't move, that kind of resolution in a body that I can throw in my backpack is insane.
