Loved it!
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

No interest in this film. I say that as a lifelong fan of the original trilogy and ex-owner of many, many, many Kenner figurines, which I gave to my nephew a few years ago, despite somewhat still wanting to play with them. I've been drinking the SW Kool-Aid for a long time and still consider myself a fan, but I'm not interested in CGI salad in the form of a terribly watered-down franchise I used to think was cool and interesting.
Yeah, I'm drunk again. Pissin' all up in your fruit loops... (I am sorry

Re: STAR WARS!!!!
I wasn't planning on seeing it until next week, but a buddy of mine invited me super last second and I thought "Fuck it, let's go"
I liked it! At the very least, on an aesthetic level, the effects looked really good and it will probably age better than the prequels. I have some gripes, but I won't make any specific complaints.
But I will say, I was worried that I would get annoyed of BB8, and although the character is a little silly, I still think he (she? it? the droid.) is awesome. Reminded me of my dog.
Which, on that note, there was a dog in the theater that I saw it in with a Santa hat on. It was great.

Saw it last night and much less CGI. Most of the creatures were good old fashion rubber stuff suits and puppets. Visually the movie seemed much more in harmony with the original trilogy than the CGI-full sequels.the raytownian wrote:Inconuucl wrote:...No interest in this film. Re: STAR WARS!!!!
Just got back from a 10am showing.
This film has exactly what I love about Star Wars and less about Star Trek - which is the absolutely lived in ships and planets. It nails the lived in worlds and scrap yards, scavenged parts and machines with worn down robots doing their thing. There's some CGI, but the sets feel authentic and nails the tone. Plus Rey is pretty rad, I like those type of female characters. The Film was overall pretty good but i'm dreading the upcoming pseudo intellectuals tear the movie to shreds.
I probably should try Star Trek again, but Star Wars is incredibly more interesting - and I never actually finished the Prequels.

Re: STAR WARS!!!!
I'm not going until next week. Honestly, I didn't want to see it at all, but my friends are all going and they bought me a ticket without even asking me. I don't know if I've ever gone into a movie with a greater sense of dread and with lower expectations. I'm honestly expecting it to be TERRIBLE.
I loved the first 3 movies and saw them a hundred billion times when I was a kid. The prequels were such atrocious piles of dogshit that they poisoned me against the entire franchise. Adding in Abrams is like adding a rotting carcass onto that plateful of dogshit.
I'm also a huge fan of Star Trek TNG/DS9 and all of the movies up until Nemesis. I've gone back and watched most of TOS as well. The new reboot ST movies that Abrams made were abominably bad. He managed to take a cerebral series with important storytelling and major social commentary, and he turned it into awful Transformers-style CGI porn and lens flares. Why anyone lets JJ Abrams direct above a grade-school play is beyond me.
The fact that all of you are saying it's good is really confusing me. It doesn't seem like it's possible that that adolescent shitshow artist could be capable of doing anything competently.

The movie was super rad.
David Schwimmer did a great job as Kylo Ren.

Re: STAR WARS!!!!
It was weird. As just a movie, and just as a Star Wars fan, it was amazing. A great flick. Very cool to see where it's heading. Lots of possibilities. A great homage to the original in a way that made me feel like they were sticking it to the prequels.
As someone who spent 20 years of my life reading the books, it is just fucking weird. Like when they blew up Vulcan in the new Star Trek. It just doesn't fit in my mind. But I still loved it.
