Grand But Empty Gestures or New Year's Resolutions
I am trying to start off 2016 on the right foot, with a few minor changes to my outlook. Nothing major, but hopefully I can stick to it. I'm actually starting now instead of waiting for the 1st, hoping to sneak them past myself.
1. Calling my son weekly. This one is easy, but I have made it hard. I have so much guilt and shame regarding my ex-wife, our divorce, my breakdown, and, frankly, my abandonment of them both. I lost my mind and they suffered and continue to suffer for it. I can take an hour a week to call him and talk to him. I have to work through the shame and anxiety and rebuild our relationship. I have to. For both of us.
2. Reading. I will not play with my phone in bed. I will not immediately turn on the TV. I used to focus so much on mindfulness and I lost track of it. No more eating in front of the TV. I will read books and magazines. Internet content is fine and good, but I need to read longer, more informational pieces. Extend my attention span.
3. No more hype. Enjoy things as they come. Digest them. Less media enjoyed more deeply. Get out of the cycle of hype>anticipation>expectation>disappointment.
4. Pedge. I know you snorted there. I did too. I have an amazing board. Like, the thing of fantasies. Dream caliber. I don't NEED anything. I don't even really want anything. So, I am selling the stuff I have for sale and enjoying what is on my board. No new pedals until July 1st. Nothing. Listen to music instead of demo videos. Explore what I have instead of daydreaming about other gear. Fucking play guitar and stop talking about it.

Re: Grand But Empty Gestures or New Year's Resolutions
1. Same as last year: avoid regular stairs if possible. Take escalators or elevators. Not really a serious one but it's funny. Plus it's cool to have one resolution I might actually keep to
2. Read more books that are fiction. All I ever read are like biographies and books on politics.
3. Attend more demonstrations and stop making excuses why I can't
4. My fourth is same as you basically. I need to be happy with what I have and realize that most things other pedals do, I can probably do with what I already have. Of course there always are a few missing elements though, but after that

Re: Grand But Empty Gestures or New Year's Resolutions
All good stuff above.
1. Finish a few college courses I have been pushing off
2. Put in at least 5 miles a week running/walking whatever. not just for exersize very good for my mental clarity
3. Watch less TV in general
4. Totally with you on the gear thing, want to freeze in what I have, figure out how to work with it best and not buy sell or trade (I think not selling is important for this as it starts a cycle)

1. Eat less garbage b/c I'm not going to exercise
2. More bass playing than gearing
3. Less screen time
That's pretty much it for personal goals

1. Run at least 500 miles ( i made 200 in 3 months so i think i can do it)
2. Be better at encouraging my friends to follow their dreams, I have some very ambitious buddies, but they have trouble starting things. I have a lot of free time, I'd like to devote to helping them start their new adventures.
3. Buy a ticket to Japan.

Re: Grand But Empty Gestures or New Year's Resolutions
My goal for last year was to not eat meat for 2015, and I did it!
So that's cool.
Maybe for 2016 I'll try to cook more and eat better food.

Get my band somewhere.
No more democracies. No more fucking around. I am sick of having a kick ass band that doesn't have anything to show for it. I shall achieve this without being a dick and making everyone quit. That's kinda the catch...

Further improve on money management - i've got the hang of it now. Just need to get better.
I'm probably going to stay being lonery, so make better use of my time.

Re: Grand But Empty Gestures or New Year's Resolutions
My resolution is to get a proper amp
And actually quit smoking
And read books
And cut way back on the sugar/sweet
And just be a better person
And the pedal thing too
And save more money.
I'm a piece of shit you guys
