Yeah, it surprised me how much I liked it too. I know Folktek used to build kind of junky circuit bent art pieces but they seem to have been stepping it up lately. I helped my friend select modules for his 480hp case and he has a lot of uniques sound sources (all of the ieaskul, benjolin, etc) but in the end got the Sputnik Dual Oscillator and MN STO. IMO, this is modular, with other modules you can make a more normal oscillator pretty damn crazy.MrNovember wrote:Folktek's first euro module looks awesome: http://folktek.com/instruments/modular/matter
I'm starting to question whether I want to keep any standard oscillators or just build a really weird rack out of stuff like this and Ieaskul stuff

Well Shit....It looks like I might end up putting a little Euro system to play with the Buchla I just ordered a Moog M32 for $480 from Musicians Friend (20% off sale!), I called and got the diiscount: I couldn't get that discount online.
Anyways, I was thinking how cool a 3 tiered 60hp Moog case would look next to my 3 tiered Buchla case. First pass looks like this:

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Oh, I am DEEP into modular. I have 16 spaces of an 18 space Buchla case filled with 200e....it ate so much of my other gear!
I have had Serge, Modcan A and Euro before too. My ultimate format would be some combo of those (all Bananas, 4U size, Preset Memory on CV sources, some of the crazier/cooler modules from Euro plus the standards in Serge and Buchla). Alas, i will settle for patching a bit between Euro and Buchla. The Euro will be a slow process because I don't have a ton of gear money at this point (New House, baby, etc).
Behndy...he is so scared of modular. I text him videos of the Buchla, he likes them but is still scared....
Here is what is in my Buchla:

(a little is cut off, oh well)

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Ohhhh, back to Euro.....
I swore it off but damn, so much cool stuff coming out. I really do have some issues with Euro but it is hard to resist not dipping in some. The M32 for $480 put me over the top of sure. What I end up with may be a little different than that modular grid screenshot. I am not opposed to Doepfer for somethings.
Man...Yes! The Buchla feels like it is a cockpit for a spacecraft. Of course Don Buchla was a NASA engineer at one time....

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Okay, so I'm starting to plan a small modular around a Dreadbox Erebrus. I know I want that contact mic module posted earlier, a DC2+Expander, and something to do glitchy stuff. I have an SQ1 to use as a sequencer already, and the erebrus has a rad analog delay. I'd want an output module to get me back down to pedal/amp levels for sure. Also I'd really like a filter similar to the one in the Microbrute because I loved how that sounded. I'd want to use this as a unison voice with the Erebrus, mainly doing noises and low drones. Also used to process field recordings, vocals, and possibly bass vi/bass. What else should I be looking into?
Also, I'm trying to stick to a semi-modular because I really like the immediacy of them for quickly working on ideas/playing smaller or shorter sets.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Well, for me personally:Inconuucl wrote:What are the drawbacks of euro?
1. Lack of some standards, for example, somethings need 5v to trigger, some 8V (sure this can be addressed with CV Processing/offsetting)
2. I prefer other jacks than 3.5mm, specifically banana jacks
3. I like larger modules than 3U, more room to grab knobs (most of the time)
Like anything, there are pluses and minuses. I do like the innovation in Euro, prices are more doable (compared to Serge/Buchla). It all sounds good and it is fun. Buchla and Serge have their drawbacks too.

Seriously. I realize price is relative and all but damn dudes this shit is expensive as hell.bob the r0bot wrote:Tiny jacks and a second mortgage.
The Make Noise System Concrete (but spelled like the method) really interests me as a replacement for a lot of my sampling stuff, but I'm not sure it's worth 2G to upgrade from my SP303 and Ableton, you know?
