The blade is made from a clad steel. The core steel is W2, which is a tool steel (not stainless at all) clad with some sort of stainless. When acidic foods are cut with it, the acids produce a discoloration or patina on the blade. I like it, as it gives it character, though its almost a shame because the blade had a perfect hand polished mirror finish when it was new

Yeah, the bolster is copper/sterling mokume. AFAIK, the mokume was made by Phil Baldwin, who is an authority on mokume. This knife is definitely a very ornate representation of Tim's work, possibly the most ornate.

I have a pretty standard Swiss Army Knife. I wanted to get a nice EDC knife, but there's no point as I can't carry it to work. Technically, I'm not even allowed to leave one in my car.

Lately, I've been thinking about setting up a forge in the not-so-near future with the main focus of hunting/tanto knives and Viking style axes. I love the idea of twisting and hammering and forming metal. Plus it would make a cool side business.

I have a Benchmade Barrage 580, NIB, for $80 if anyone is interested. Lowest you're gonna find one for.

Is that the drop point? I have the 583 tanto with the half-serration. It's the closest I could get to replace the special issue one they did for Warn, which I lost last year. I wish they would reissue those cuz the D2 blades were the shit!

I strongly recommend this knife to everyone. I mean if you can live w/o the tanto tip. The action is fantastic. A lot of inexpensive spring-assisted knifes (Kershaw I'm lookin' at you) don't have the consistent spring tension to open the blade fully if it gets impeded by anything during its initial opening. In other words if you donk them on your hand or whatever, then they require further action to lock open. Benchmades have strong springs and even if you only open it half-way it will continue the motion to full open unless you physically hold it back. There is nothing more dangerous to its user than a partially-opened folding knife. Shit will close on your fingers like meat shears. Get a Benchmade.

Thanks John! It does seem like a great knife, but I have so many others. A 4300 CLA or CQC-7k (tanto) ride in my pocket most of the time, hah.

I'll get a picture of the others up soon. In the meantime, some more traditional knives...

As do I, but that one won't see any use. Pretty sure it is one of the first of the pattern. Tang stamp indicates a combination of the year prior, and the first year of production. Plus, it's purple, haha.

I have collected a bunch of knives since childhood, mostly folders and small trinket-ish ones, these are two of my more absurd knives from adulthood. The perspectivenis a little fucked but the blades are 9" and 5 and 1/4" respectively.

I have a handmade damascus seax I will try to get a photo of sometime. My EDCs are all pretty boring CRKT and Gerber type stuff. Would like a Benchmade one day.
