They were still around from retailers when I first got back into pedals. Almost all of the ones I have were from old dead stock (pretty much) or from good deals on ebay and here. In 2014, Rhys was still supplying some retailers, they just aren't the ones that are popular (prymaxe, PGS, etc).

They are a blast and deals can still be had for them. They really aren't that rare (some way more than others though...slicer). I like the aesthetics too.

as a potential retailer, I just have to think about it in a different way, because I'd be comparatively more interested in carrying him than to buy his pedals for myself. But not at these prices and not after hearing about the communication issues and shit :idk:

which is inherently wrong, but that's the way it is - my business budget is much larger than my personal (most of the times, especially now, nonexistent) budget :idk:

While I was searching for a certain Australian pedal on the 7th December 2012 I stumbled upon the Seppuku pedal line up at effectsdatabase.com. I was immediately astonished by the look of those beasts and they promised new sounds. During the last twelve months I was lucky to purchase a DPM-2, an Octave Synth and a beautiful first version Mind Warp. Indeed, these pedals can create sounds that I cannot achieve with my other pedals and I'm looking forward to receive more Seppuku pedals in the future. Those have to be used and fairly unexpensive, though.
I love experimental sounds that completely maltreat the original signal and the Seppuku's are just right for that purpose. :animal:
When I first saw them (I think it was back when he was calling it "diamond skeleton") I remember everyone thinking they were cheaper versions of Death By Audio pedals, even down to the aesthetics. I don't know what the circuits turned out to be, but the DPM definitely sounded similar to the DBA Robot.

Yea, pretty sure they are both based on the same chip (think the digitizer is too). DPM is pretty tame compared to a lot that has came out since. It is a great usable pedal and pretty fun...I think the DBA Robot is a bit more crazy though...DPM is more focused on being a neat distortion and blending sounds and overtones (yea there is some arp and bending in there, but it is no way as crazy as CT5, KK, or something).

It's actually kind of a neat little design that blends analog and digital distortion with some overtones. DBA Robot sounds like the full on wet version of the digital side to me (edited down).

But I do think they are closely related...but the chip is in a bunch of toys too I think. I think other than the chip, the work Rhys and the DBA do are quite different (but first impressions are a thing...same thing was thought about Paradox recently...DBA did inspire a lot of people, as did E13 and Zvex etc)

DBA was kind of special because when they came out nothing really was widely avaliable that looked or sounded like them (maybe zvex and some E13...but zvex was expensive and E13 was cooler in demos then in person). Wasn't a lot of choices back then. They were expensive back then too (gotta pay new york rent I guess). Zvex stuff was always sold out and really expensive. There were a few other companies around but they were either boring, expensive (like way expensive...metasonix, frostwave, etc), or just another FF clone. Things have changed a lot (like SIB was the delay at the time haha)...and gotten somewhat oversaturated...man, tangent...

Everything is a bend of something...

I'm glad you got one finally man...too bad that it didn't work out a while back...(man that seems way longer ago than it was).

I'll pick up another if I see it around again.

dandolin loves his too.

It really is a nice design and surprisingly useful for Seppuku stuff...like it fits in all over (kind of like memory loss...way more than KK and digitizer).

That video was actually super useful. I actually had no idea what those switches really did haha. I mean I kinda knew what they did in a practical sense I guess :idk:
