read receipts

Post by hbombgraphics »

I flipping hate these things
I have my outlook setup to tell me someone requested one and then I can reject the request
Delete receipts are just as bad

I feel like you don't need to worry about someone getting an e-mail like you did maybe 20 years ago. This tech should go away.

In my experience, only low level companies do this jank.

Anyone else have issues with the read receipt?

I just try to avoid my work email as much as possible. So far, nobody has caught on.

Dude, I wish I could do that.

On average I think I go through about 150 e-mails a day

Honestly, I'm kidding. Thankfully, I don't wade through that many emails because I'm usually grinding on design/production, but my boss sure does. I average 15 - 20 on a typical day. No read receipts requested... yet.

15-20 would be cool

Alot of what I get I just need to be aware of and not respond to personally,

if my inbox is more than one page though I don't function well. (the rest of the time I function so good!!!)

They suck. They also, apparently, drive tweens and emotional tweens nuts. Outbox anxiety and all that.

Unfortunately, I work in an industry that is regulated like fucking crazy, and read receipts are pretty much a necessity to cover your ass. If you don't have a paper trail, you could be in a for a very fast, very short ride down if something happens.

I hate read receipts too and always reject the request to provide one when prompted. I am a fan of voting buttons when I send training emails to my staff however. But this is only because it is my team and ultimately I am responsible if something goes wrong, so I need to know they understand, not just read, my email. I would never send a voting email to someone not under my direct supervision. I'm not that big of a douche.

I could be making this up, but I've got a feeling there was a study done showing that individual productivity declined after email became widespread. Obviously productivity in terms of gdp/capita has risen but yeah - the office has become a less efficient place to be.

Based on my experience, It has and it hasn't.
Based on some of the meetings we have, more seems to get done via e-mail.

E-mail and other tech can be hugely distracting to completing projects, but can also save you from a drawn out conversation over something simple.

I think it's sort of douchey, in almost all contexts. There is one guy at work that does it, but I understand why given his role, and it makes sense. But he's the only guy I've ever worked with that had a decent justification.

I generally decline to send the receipt. Especially to unsolicited email from outside my company (sales drones). Those usually have a delete receipt request.

But I love email as a way to avoid having a meeting.

E-mail to avoid a meeting is the greatest thing ever.

we run Daily meetings but I try to replace one with a shared document at least once a week when possible.

In general I get them from nervous buyers or a few sales places and yes they do have the delete receipt as well. These receipts are especially fun when you are digging for something on a remote connection from China (which is already very slow) and then the boxes start popping up................................ :grumpy: :grumpy:

I don't even know, maybe thankfully so, what a read receipt is.

Me neither. Thought my dad had gotten on here to tell us all why we should always keep our receipts after buying stuff.
