So I decided to try and trade my DPO for a Rubicon, Dixie, uFold combo just to try something different and I was offered two Braids builds...So tempting. I don't know if I should hold out for the Intellijel combo or take the Braids :idk:

Just get you a monorocket or similar bus board and a power one supply. They are dirt cheap and provide a ton of clean power. Super easy to do! There's a good walk through thread on it somewhere on muffwiggler but I can't find it at the moment.
Do you have any links to the DIY PS stuff?

Also, in general. For someone who wants to spend as little as possible (I realize I'll be spending hundreds but the less the better) and can solder, what are some DIY kits/modules to look at?

I'm not really sure of the sound(s) I'm after. I like a lot of Krautrock stuff. The Locust.

Synthrotek is a good kit provider if you're into DIY. They have tonnes of kits including a power supply. 4ms sells kits of most of their modules, but have fewer of the bread and butter stuff you'll want for small starter system. If you're in the Europe or don't mind ordering from there, Thonk also has loads of kits available and Erica Synths and Bastl Instruments have kits for most of their modules.
If you've got some serious DIY chops though, Mutable Instruments is all open source, publishes their PCB, Panel layouts, and source code on github, and has some threads on part sourcing on their forum.

for funsies, I've also included a future music vid on how to make a cardboard case.

This Kaitlyn Smith performance is soooo awesome. This is some of the kind of stuff I'd like to do with a modular.

Then get an Easel or 208r.

Man, I sold my Buchla SkyLab case a few weeks to go bigger (an 18 space case) and I haven't been able to wiggle for a few weeks, really missing it....

So, my new case arrives on Thursday, I can't wait! Also, kind of cool history to the case, Don performed live with this case at UCB. The guy that I bought this case and some modules from used to work at Buchla & Associates.

Buchla is awesome, perhaps in the same way as caviar. Pretentious as shit, expensive as hell, but once you get a taste...

If you want to replicate a music easel in euro your best bet is probably a Sputnik/Verbos hybrid system.

Or just get modules with a specific goal in mind an focusing on controllers/interactive stuff.

The small sliders on the Easel are also a nice plus for live interactions, btw.

Music easel is awesome but no dough for that.

What about something like the Microbrute and building a few modules to use with it? Like another oscillator.

If you want to go that way (one voice + adding other modules), getting a fully modular one voice module and then adding some other stuff would probably be better. But mor expensive too.

I'd also recommend something like the quNexus as a CV controller. If you're into melodic stuff, having some sort of controller like that makes a big difference.

The more I try to look else the more I see why I want the elements: making glitchy pseudoacoustic instruments with that + clouds + phono-gene makes think dirty things.

I've been thinking that for a long time, but the more I look at the price tag and the more I look at the hp, the more I realize it just won't work in my system. Until I seriously upgrade my case. I believe I'll be going with a Braids instead; less cv, but it does have plucked, blow, and bell modes that sound pretty good. Also, meta mode and bees-in-the-trees.

Also Faldoe, search muffwiggler for the thread "Microbrute as first euro module" or something like that (if I wasn't on my phone is link it). I read it awhile ago but from what I recall there were lots of opinions and suggestions on augmenting a Microbrute with euro

Pretty simple set up (not really modular either), but it sounds great:
