Let's Read Your "Fuck Bands--I'm Flying Solo" Tales

I'm in a similar position. I just moved back to Michigan with my band. However, since moving back, our bassist has joined another band and by the time the guitarist gets off work, he seems to just want to catch up on sports and freemium mobile games. Instead of carrying all the weight, I've decided to focus primarily on a solo venture. I guess my musical past has helped as I've always been the only multi instrumentalist in my bands, and by multi instrumentalist, I mean the only one ever willing to try a different instrument.

I'm planning to start something focused around cassette loops, an SR-16 possibly triggering addictive drums 2, and guitar/bassVI.

I don't get how people think they can half-ass commit to music and make it past 20 person turn out shows. The problem with band members is they all rely on 1 person to record, innovate, organize practice, create live visuals, and do whatever else isn't their 1 exclusive instrument. If you want to be a musician in 2015 you atleast need to know how to track your own shit.

the bands I like that use programmed drums are usually ones that mimmick exactly a human and are intelligently mapped.

Outside of that I like very few that aren't doing that. like Godflesh, or Mortician... not all bands like them... just them and a few others.



and totally agree with Psyre that nowadays it's a must to know how to record yourself in some way. makes internet collabs so much easier.

I can't imagine not knowing how to track if you're actually calling yourself a musician in a band tbh.

To each their own of course, but I think faking live drums sounds is lame as fuck. You don't have to be rocking 808 handclaps or anything, but being true to the tools you have and are using is cool, and since you're doing something new and cool and different it seems to make sense to do it in a new and cool and different way.

I'm with you on this. The coolest thing about drum machines is they can do things a normal drummer can't, why not take advantage of that?
