I've spent a little time on the SSGuitar forum, a builders' resource for people making 'solid state' (ie non-tube) amps. It's a friendly and helpful group.
SSG members recently received news of a Kickstarter campaign for the much-revised Honey battery-powered amp. This is one of those build-in-an-altoids-tin type projects, although I don't know if the PCB would literally fit in an Altoids tin. It's an easy build, remarkably low-cost given that the results blow most battery amps out of the water, and ought to be a doddle for anyone building their own pedals.

I was looking at that project the other day. PCB looks nice too. The SSguitar forum is a great resource.
