Are Squires still better than Sadowskys?

Which pickup will make my Stingray sound like a 50's P?

Why won't my singer-chick wear the band uniform of short sleeved shirt and fedora?

The place makes me HEAVE.

And the near constant "best X for metal?" threads prove that it's just a poseur-depository.

i think ron bongripper uses like .210 gauge for his F, He may play 36" or 35" scale tho memory is fuzzy

Just get a kalium set and get intonation working ok. Do you think this is 7string.org?

:idk: the bass I used on one or two of the songs on the co-lab we did years ago was tuned to F# standard with a kalium set, the low string is 184.
Setup is weird for those tunings because most if not all big strangs are tapered core or exposed core which means you have to be able to jack up your action on the those strings because they are skinnier over the saddle. Also there is the issue that not all bass bridges have enough intonation range and are normally set up with for standard tuning intonation range so on a lowwww tuning you might bottom out which means you are going to have to move the bridge back .5" to 1" which means filling new holes and having a body with enough space on it....

I'm waiting for the inevitable "just tune up to F" for the full djent experience.

I dig Bongripper (as does every right thinking person) and they sound great but another lovely massively detuned band is 11Paranoias, who play in A standard, I believe. Excellent tones.

Most likely if I get another bass over here it's gonna be for something boring like standard tuning, though. :(

I would love to go a sludge gig and just drop lines like "if you tune the bass up your tone would be alot tighter!", "have you considered modelling to get the stage volume down?", "i think you should use a noise gate. your tone is too noisy" and of course "Drop F# on a gibson?! get an 8-string instead!"

What gets me about TB is CLUBS. If your "club" gets dozens of posts a day, it's a mini forum that you're forced to read all of, or resigned to read none of. Some clubs drown knowledge in a sea of in-jokes. I expressed this feeling once and quickly was made to understand that I don't get it. But that's fine. The Aria Pro II club is cool.

I learned through occasional visits to TB about 12 years ago that bass gear had gotten lightweight. I quit gigging in the early 90s because I couldn't deal with heavy bass gear, and it turned out it wasn't my fault, that I was actually sick all the time and I figured out why, but learning about Markbass on TB was an important step in the right direction. Props to TB for that.

I read about gear there. I learned about some cool pedals, and my tone is good (and I had been unaware to what extent it hadn't been) and I've been getting paid to play covers again. I use an EQD compressor and just got a great Sushi Box preamp that runs a mini tube at 9v.

I do agree with most of this thread. I don't socialize there except to talk about gear. But I sub with bands where I endure horrible personalities. (not my main band, I'm lucky there) Where else am I going to read about bass gear? reddit?

I don't even use fuzz or distortion on bass. I like reading about compressors and preamps. I don't even belong here! But I like it here.
