Gamechanger is doing a 25% off sale at their web store on their Plasma Coil devices. So $224.25 for the basic plasma distortion as the entry level. They do 20% off pretty frequently but I don’t recall 25% before.

It looks like MF/GC is trying to clear their stock of these white MF-102 clones. ($169 down from $219) If you want black, you should be able to score an open-box for $150 or less (eBay, et cetera).

Ah, I have owned a Mastotron and built multiple Mastotron/Mammoth clones and I currently don't have one, hmm.

Kind of an odd one, but if you were looking to spend a few bills for a dynamic mic for vocals, voiceover, and general instrument instrument use, this one just came in your price range for the next ten days. The Audix PDX720 is a fairly new large hypercardioid dynamic that was intended to make people pic it over an EV RE-20 or Shure SM-7, but the price of $800 made that a tough sell. Sweetwater has a ten-day sale for $300. Looks like an exclusive on the sale. Anyway, it is a really good mic, though there are still other great choices at this price point without time pressure as a factor.

Interesting, been thinking about an RE20 for a bit now, wonder how it compares.

i actually need the opposite if i’m to have any hope of recording acoustic instruments given the surprisingly troublesome urban ambient noise floor here, which is to say a ruthlessly unidirectional mic with a narrow field. if i tried to use a SM58 it’d sound like the man-on-the-street found-sound recordings on the early gybe! albums. that was one of their most interesting aspects to me and i was sorry when it disappeared, but that doesn’t mean i want my acoustic guitar and autoharp to sound like Dictaphone recordings. if I need that i have the Shallow Water and Generation Loss.

Hypercardioids (Beyer M-88) or supercadioids (Sennheiser MD-441) tend to be the best behaved for problem home environments—cardioids have a wider pickup pattern than both of these, and the rear lobe of a figure-8 is much tougher to deal with since it picks up quite as much as the front.

cheap for a CB product, but if i was going to look at a phaser right now it'd be the new-ish DBA thing, which is pretty insane and much more interesting than most phasers to me. i have a blind spot there...phasing is my least favorite form of modulation, and though i have phase options on the main and Normie Boards i seldom use them.
