Yes most 8 ohm speakers are actually 5.71ohms I'm aware of that, but I was told these were true oddballs that had off kilter ohm ratings and would need to be either sourced as rarities or replace all 6 with matching ohm ratings, this was information given to me; none of that was confirmed other then seeing 6ohm stamped in ink on the drivers themselves. I do believe though that they used to use a different ohm rating system, where the old 6's are now considered 8's. But here's the kicker, all 6 speakers had 6ohm stamped on them, how do you wire 6 of those up and come out with an acceptable ohm rating? If you parallel split them into 3 speaker series you'd get either (8+8+8)/2 = 12ohms or if they are in fact 6ohm you'd get (6+6+6)/2 = 9ohms, it's the same if you wire it as a 4x12 + 2x12 parallel split. So either somebody replaced the speakers in his amp and totally botched it, or these things are wired really funky. And yes its not 300watts at all, I believe these came as 100-120w. 100lbs is giving it a lil credit, it weighs more then 105lb 6x12.H18 wrote:For your friend's information, a lot of speakers that are supposedly 8 or whatever ohms, when tested with a multimeter are actually very different. I've tested 8 ohm speakers that came out 5.6 ohms. So, your friend is pretty safe replacing it with an 8-ohmer. However, if the cab is wired in series (which would be dumb), then the difference in resistance could have a negative effect (back EMF). If they're parallel then it doesn't really matter much about the ohmage, and if series/parallel, well it's most likely going to be fine and unnoticeable.
Regarding this amp, well it's not 300 watts as the description suggests. That's just the power consumption. The seller does not seem to know much about amplifiers, which could mean they think it is fully functional when it is not. There's no mention of the quality of the tubes, which is not encouraging. Oh and it weighs almost 100 lbs. and there's no flat shipping fee, so it could turn out to be astronomical. Also there's 6 days left of the auction so the price could still go to the crazy zone.

It was totally a 200s and a 2x15 that was at The Musicians Hub, so sickChetMagongalo wrote:^ there was a music store here selling that same stack for $1000. It sounds great
Actually it had a different name with an S and less knobbies
I went to about $120 just in case... still $179 is damn good for whoever got it.Helter wrote:I tried and failed for the sarcophagus
