Very nice, what did you use to remove the varnish/lacquer? That guitar looks super interesting.
I need to figure out how to polish aluminum well before finishing the Twist, started building a Tiger model and Wandre Waid/Spezial bass. This is the headstock of the Tiger right after TIG welding (hit one side with file).

Not the best interns of speed but I was trying not to mess any glue joint up.. Same reason I din't use a heat gun.. might have messed with the braces and the goal is to glue the top back together... On a side note... to keep myself from doing this again I gave the rest of the jog to my sister for her home remodeling project that way I don't have the temptation to remove finished for a while.. every damn time I do this I say I'm not going to do this again.. and I do

oof sorry to see that
no can glue, fill, and drill I suppose?
if you're not feeling the Krichards thing, maybe try Baroque guitar or Cittern tuning

Re: Frankenstein's Lab! [SHOW YOUR PROJECTS THREAD]
Made this bass string holder for the Waid bass last night
The actual ones seem to be made of extruded aluminum half round pipe, the one I made is just solid half round. Also figured out how to buff/polish aluminum...buy a buffer! Spend 5 hours wet sanding or 2 minutes using a real buffer. :surprise:
This bass is massive, I tried printing this so it would be 100% scale to help in making the template but I'm fairly sure I printed it way undersized looking at the position of the bridge (assuming it is a 34" scale bass) and how close the strings are on my print out...I'm guessing the body is 2 feet wide at its widest on the real ones...just ridiculous. I'm building it to be more normal sized.

Looking at that, the bridge looks like a hofner which have near guitar string spacing if that helps...

Yes! Just looked it up, says Hofner spacing is 14mm or 0.560 inch, I copied the spacing on the Pbass bridge I have which was 0.800 inch.

Re: Frankenstein's Lab! [SHOW YOUR PROJECTS THREAD]
Needed a fret press caul, and decided to try and make one and maybe save 70 bucks from stewmac.
Tested it on a scrap neck, seems to work well. Took a long time though because my mill is small and milling steel on it is glacial.

Re: Frankenstein's Lab! [SHOW YOUR PROJECTS THREAD]
nice work! I wish I could do that with my mandola, but it's a slot head...they make planetary gear pegs but gatt damm they are expensive.
