Thanks guys

His death has been hard, and it seems that least for me I have been grieving him very openly and loudly. I still carry his collar around where-ever I go and its especially hard in the morning when its just me and the kids. Once I get his ashes and paw print I am going to have a shadowbox made so I can put his collar in it with a nice picture.

The last couple of weeks of his life where hard - at moments he was awake and others he slept for most of the day. He lost control of his bladder so the house reeked of dog piss and for a couple of weeks he had diarrhea for 7 days straight. It was like this for 10 months with a 10 month old - at times it was unbearable. His body was so frail and skinny and his coat was at a lot of times matted and nasty, we did so much to make him feel better but at times we struggled.

It defiantly was him time to go and his passing was so peaceful that in many ways I am glad I did it. I still miss him so much through.

Get with the program brah! People like curated nature. Not nature nature.
I'm actually reading DEEP right now (Charles Nestor) and the free divers he interviewed talk about how scuba is just a remarkably stupid way to learn about sharks in their natural habitat. Capturing "nature" has to be incognito as possible and most people don't want to give up "petting" wolves, zoos, swimming with dolphins in a pool, etc.

People be wanting to Free Willy but no one talks about how the those killer whales are real sons of bitches. Now I'm not advocating for the unregulated slaughter that is the whaling industry but... the killer whale is one of the most "not bro" whales.

Think this is a good place to post this rant.

Super high stress few weeks at work, a few quality issues and the current materials and labor markets are forcing us to revisit all of our pricing (By the way, based on the trends I am seeing pedal prices are going to go way up real soon and manufacturers will have no control over it)......anyway.....My boss who normally works like 10:30 to 12 has been coming in at 9 to "help strategize" but I get the bulk of my high focus work done at that time, because he is a huge disruptor. I am managing to get things done but not at the pace I like and I really can't process anything that requires critical thought. I have been managing the stress level by going out to the warehouse and helping re-work and re-pack some bigger parts that we have very slow demand for (I box up like 10 a day). It helps me clear my head, make better decisions and gets a job done that would probably annoy someone else. I still get all my work done, and honestly it probably helps me work faster since it helps me clear some brain fog.......biggest gripe I have currently is that now my boss is coming to find me in the warehouse, wants to discuss everything, so the one bit of quiet I get is now gone. He did volunteer to help me pack up the parts, which is nice and I tried to nicely explain that I was using that time to clear my head, not sure he is processing that at all. I know this is a big nothing compared with some issues that are brought up in this thread, but I need a place to vent, right now my wife (preschool teacher) is in the middle of Parent Teacher conferences so I don't believe she can absorb my work stress at the moment, plus we are selling our house and buying a house currently. Feel like today I might flip out for a few minutes, or go on a bike ride.

Long rant, short version: Boss is driving me nuts, my normal place to escape has been compromised, super high stress time, need to ride bikes.

Rant #1:
I think I've ranted a bit about our wedding venue in the past, so I'll try to keep this short. Essentially, we picked this place because it's 1) a beautiful farm and 2) everything was included (venue, wedding planner, food, bar, servers, flowers, decor, DJ. Even transportation and officiant was organized through them).
Not too long after signing a contract with them we found out that the wedding planner wasn't coming back from her maternity leave, but we'd be able to potentially hire her separately in the future, which would be an added cost on top of the ridiculous amount we were already paying the venue. Then during COVID they decided they have to close their kitchen, so we had to start looking for a caterer. A couple weeks after that, after we talked to about a dozen caterers, the venue found a caterer that was going to take over their kitchen and any future weddings, but we would still have to work with them separately. Also, they cost more than what the venue originally quoted.

Also, we were supposed to get a package with info on the flower and decor options (more added costs) from the owner in March 2020, but that still hasn't happened. Also, if you ask the owner more than one question in an email, you'll be lucky to get a response to all of them. You're honestly lucky to get a proper response to even one question.

Now they have decided to sell the venue and the sale is supposed to go through Aug 16, less than a month before our wedding (Sept 10). My fiancee found out about the potential sale of the company through a post on their social media; we didn't actually get any more info until we reached out to them to ask what was going on with our wedding date. We are being assured that the new owners will be taking over our contract and everything will go smoothly, but we have very little confidence in the current owner at this point. When we asked for a contact for the new owner, we were just told that we would get it "in due time". Also, we have the option to hire the previous owner to do the flowers still, so I guess we have to find a florist now too.

We are so ridiculously done with dealing with them, but if we back out, we lose our entire $13000 deposit. We weren't really worried about signing a contract with that clause in it at the time because, before COVID and before all of the run around, we would have never guessed there would be any reasons we would want to back out. But now - instead of paying a premium for a venue that was going to do everything and save us a lot of stress - we are planning everything, we are still paying a premium, and we are stressing more than if we just planned everything ourselves in the first place.

Rant #2:
Have I ranted about Samsung appliances here yet?

When we bought our house it came with slightly older, clearly scratch-and-dent sale Samsung appliances. Like all of them: fridge, stove, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, dryer. The lot. We were pretty excited because they seem like higher end units with a couple nicks here and there. But holy shit, fuck Samsung appliances!
1) the fridge leaks constantly from built up condensation and poor drainage. It leaks to a point where it actually damaged the flooring underneath the fridge. Also, the pooling condensation freezes and eventually gets bad enough to stop the fan so that we have to empty the fridge and let it thaw. In looking up the issue, turns out this is super common with Samsung fridges. I've gone through all the troubleshooting to set up the fridge properly to no avail.
2) the dishwasher only really properly cleans dishes if it's on the heavy duty cycle and even then we still find residue and dirty dishes sometimes. Also, the heavy duty cycle takes like 3 hours; I can only imagine how much power and water we are wasting
3) the washing machine was part of a recall due to them rapidly deconstructing during the spin cycle with a large load. Not a huge deal, we just have to be careful when washing bedding, but it's also prone to leaving lint/fabric softener/detergent stains if you use slightly too much of anything
4) the microwave kept short circuiting and switching off breakers. Then it stopped working for awhile (it would run, but not heat anything up). Not sure what we even did to fix that, but now the door just broke on it. Still technically works, but we have to physically hold the door shut for it to work.
No complaints about the stove and dryer though :idk:

While I can't relate about the whole wedding thing (I'm very sorry for you though, I got a couple of friends getting married in a month and their plans got messed up too, but I think your situation is way worse :() maybe I can help you with the domestic appliances:

Pretty sure you already checked this but:
- Check if the rubber gasket (is it the correct name? idk) that covers the door of the fridge closes correctly or remains open (particularly in the corners). This is usually the main cause of internal condense, which causes the compressor to work harder because of heat losses and this eventually causes freezing.
- Is one of those units that has a small hole for drainage in the middle of the internal backside? If so, check if it drains correctly or if it's partially obstructed, it's pretty common.
- if the back of the fridge is too close to the wall try to distantiate it a bit more. This allows more air to move and helps preventing overheating, which may cause the fridge circuit to work harder than it should.

Pretty sure you already did this too, but check the salt level, fill it properly and then do a full cycle with the dishwasher empty. Check if there are any obstructions on thewater distribution system (where jets of water come out, it's different from one machine to another), spray arms etc. Do you use a rinse aid? It hugely helps to make the dirt slip away.
The water hardness in your area could be another caus of domestic appliances getting ruined earlier than they should.

That's some good info, Dowi. Thanks!

I have tried the first two suggestions regarding the fridge. Haven't tried to pull it out further from the wall, but it's worth a shot!

I honestly haven't done much troubleshooting with the dishwasher. Might be next on the list after we fix the microwave, which has completely died now. I unplugged it, took apart the door, found the bit that needs repairing, put everything back together, plugged it back in ANNND nothing. Doesn't turn on any more. I didn't touch anything electrical; the parts I took off and the parts that need replacing are all plastic bits of the door latch. Checked the breaker (which had tripped) and the electrical socket and that is all working fine. Maybe whatever electrical issues we were experiencing before finally fully fried it :idk:

Three girls (13, 14 and 17) have drowned in the Rhine yesterday. When do the people learn (especially those with migration background) that you simply don't go swimming in a river with strong shipping traffic?!

We got involved in a car accident last Saturday while driving south for our summer vacation. Luckily we haven't been hurt in any way, but had to rent a car to get here while our car was being checked, and yesterday I received the estimated repair costs, which are about as much as what we set apart for this entire holidays.
To add another happy note, once the car gets fixd, I have to jump on a bus, then a train (6 to 8 hours depending on the coincidence timing) , take the car, and then drive back another 5hours to bring the car here where we're staying.

Fucks sake.

the only thing that sounds good about that is that you guys weren't hurt. fortunately, that's the only thing that can't be replaced.
