It seems like the Blackfly section doesn't interact with the audio input at all, is that right? In Squirm mode, does the instrument input work?

Here's the description from the page linked in the OP:
In “Bite” mode, any instrument can be used with the Baby Furnace portion of the pedal, providing a unique, original, gated fuzz sound. Two channels of differently-voiced fuzz with a clean blend available on both channels.

In “Squirm” mode, no input signal is needed! Strum, pluck, slap, etc the springs and/or tap, pop, scream into, slam, etc the enclosure to produce sound picked up by the internal mic. This can be used with or without the Baby Furnace portion (activated via the left footswitch).

Bite is just Baby Furnace and uses external input signal source (guitar, bass, keys, vox, etc).

Squirm is the Blackfly side that needs no external source since the contact mic is active and can be fed into the Baby Furnace portion or not.

It says no input needed but it doesn't say if the instrument input is bypassed in Squirm mode and it doesn't say if the instrument input has any interaction with the Squirm side.

It functions like a normal Blackfly (which has no signal input jack) when in Squirm mode.
The video demo linked on the site (and on our youtube channel) shows the usage of the modes and pedals, if that helps at all.

Essentially, it would end up being a mess playing on a rumbling stage if the contact mic was picking up the stage sounds + your instrument being played. One wouldn't be able to control the spring vibration and other ambient sounds that the contact picked up. We (us and EF) found that it's much easier to separate the usage.

With all that said, there would be no charge/fee to mod it so that you can have the instrument input and contact mic active at the same time. Just leave a note at checkout.

Thanks for clarification.

That's a nice offer.
