Anyone know if this pickup idea would work?

If the red part of this pickup design was ferrous steel and the pickup pole magnets fit into the holes on it, would this short this out/not work?
I've seen "booster plates" below pickups (like how a tele bridge pickup gets that extra oomph from the steel plate below it) and was wondering what happens if you had the actual magnets in contact with the steel bar under it.

I'm guessing it would work but not sure what would happen? What would happen if that bar is a magnet? I've tried drilling holes in magnets before and it's incredibly difficult but just wondering....

Arent lipsticks built with the winds straight onto the magnet? I think the widge ranges are built with magnet screws into a metal piece also (thats why they use the cunife, so they could mill the magnet)

It'll work, nothing shorts, your just shifting the magnetic field. The old Travis Bean pickups are made similar to this. I actually made something similar before.

I took a SD Phatcat and removed the bar magnets. Then drilled out the pole piece screw holes in the bobbin and inserted A5 rod magnets that fit into a steel plate I machine to fit under the bobbin. It was a loud and bright single coil, I was happy with it.
