Sonny & Brownie are like a genre all by themselves - i liked these two as Piedmont followers

listening to that Sonny & Brownie album - that is pretty far for their core style - it def opens a can of worms
and this song, which is pretty far from blues, although it is kind've gospel, is the biggest can opener in the drawer

although i prefer their prime material, this is a pretty interesting counterpoint to 'Fathers and Sons'
plus, banjo :p

and back to Otis Taylor and his 'Recapturing the Banjo' album

noice! i want it

i'ma post the Otis Taylor tiny desk i'm watchin', which has some elucidative commentary from the man; and, because he's on that second OT song, but moreso 'cause Albert King purportedly preferred to be referred to as "Albin Keen" - some Alvin Youngblood Hart

and later, cause Cephas & Wiggins cover two of his songs on their debut, i'ma post some Skip James, *my* king of the blues :snax:

Sonny & Brownie were pretty prolific. Speakin' of stuff outside their core style, I like their more "urban" stuff:

I also like their stuff w/ Earl Hooker:

navasota'd

so good

as mentioned previously
the '31 stuff is better, but there's so little of it that it's by definition over-played
his later stuff still has that otherworldly tinge in the vocals and some new themes that are poignant as he faces mortality (but with very little diminution in his powers afaic)
