First shows since Pandemic

Wed May 26, 2021 9:43 pm

I just bought tickets to a show for the first time since Feb of 2020! I didn't even care about the ticket master fees. Sadly it's not until next Feb but I am fucking STOKED!

Anyone else picking up tickets or going to shows again?

Last time I saw them live...

If everything goes right I'm going to Meshuggah and Black Midi at the end of this year, but I don't want to bee too confident, I guess we'll see how things evolve. The dates are confirmed so far, so fingers crossed. In the meanwhile some local bands open air shows are starting to pop up for the summer, they should be a lot more easier organize (and attend to), so I'm looking forward to those.

Also I'd die to go back on stage too..

Which Meshuggah show are you going to?

I've been optimistically buying tickets the whole time  which has resulted in a few cancellations... Currently first thing back is Raw Power in August but that's very much... yeah we'll see.. If that gets cancelled, Black Midi, if that gets cancelled, Winterfylleth... I have a whole range of stuff that may be cancelled booked

That's a good technique :thumb:

Hmm... there appears to be cheap direct flights from Stockholm to Milan...
And there is no Swedish show booked on this tour.

Is the flight landing in BGY? If so, the airport Il like 15mins from my house. I'd be happy to carry you around (and to the concert) if you'd like to spend a couple days here

Not sure what shows I’ll be making it to... but IceBear has our first gig in August :doom:

I honestly don’t see myself getting to worked up about going to a show to be quite honest. I can’t imagine trying to relax around a bunch of stinky weirdos and everyone coughing in your beer. 15 months of working frontline healthcare during the pandemic has really changed my outlook on things.

Sometimes I’m driving around and Maiden will come on shuffle and I’ll think “fuck I’d love to see Eddie and the boys rip it up again but you know what? I dunno if I’d even be willing to go at this point. I was lucky enough to get vaxxed early January with both doses and my wife just got her first shot but our whole province is still under lockdown.

We also just sold our house and are moving out of the city so I had to factor all this into my decision. It’s not going to be as simple as going to see Cerebral Rot on tour and just jumping in an Uber home. I’m definitely not going to be able to now that I’ll be moving to a much smaller city (however a lot of my friends have moved to a similar location and I may be able to put some kind of space rock thing together and just jam with my vaxxed friends).

tldr: not getting excited at all for shows, maybe I need a new fuzz pedal?

Yeah, shows are starting to optimistically be announced here, but we're also in lockdown and there's no hard plan yet for the live music sector.

I'm both excited and nervous, 'cause the shows I like are the smallest ones, and those are often in the smallest, least-ventilated rooms (i.e the sort of marginal spaces you can get for DIY weirdo music shows). I have a room booked for one of my semi-regular things at the end of October and I'm still not highly-optimistic about that.

My lowered expectations for the foreseeable horizon include some small-scale semi-informal jams in the parks this summer. Not sure when folks'll feel comfortable about being indoors together.

I agree with you on this. I don't think we would have agreed if it wasn't that particular venue [it's a large outdoor area with a huge stage behind a tiny weird biker bar..] and the cause as we lost our front person to our main band N@MELESS to caner in 2019, our 2nd to last gig was also a light the night benefit :idk:

People here are basically acting like nothing ever happened, but I'm in Western North Carolina. I got side-eyed at a hardware store today which I assume was for wearing a mask.... :idk:

I bet Chank is hitting up some sweet Florida white reggae jams...

Not as close as BGY, but still doable. Hmu if you decide to come. :thumb:

Considering all the shit that happened here I'm not super excited too, but I am just carefully hopeful. It's several months from now and the Vax campaign is going quite well so, while I don't expect the situation to be solved by then, I hope we'll be able to slowly reintroduce some good habits like concerts.

Yesssss

Also very yes.

I can understand this entirely. Maybe I'm a little cavalier about hoping for shows to come back asap... but vaccination is going OK, and I'm in the lucky position of being vaccinated and not having anyone I see regularly who is at high risk - so I have probably been quite isolated from the worst effects of the whole thing. But the isolation and being cooped up has been absolutely horrible and I want to get back out to gigs and things...
