I’m just gonna say, knowledge is making these threads interesting this year.

Yeah I really loved the christmas comptroller role  it's so fun watching everyone scurry around like festive rats, unaware of the breadth of your vision from atop the ivory tower of knowledge.

My stalker may feel pressure from me not having posted about gear in almost a decade but don't be....picture me more like a desperate man who hasn't gotten any in a long time.....I'll love anything.

Long story short, I used to have a pretty decent collection of pedals but sold most of them when my quintuplets were born.....then another baby was born.....now the quints are nine and getting into music so I'm able to kinda piece a board back together but I've missed out on nine years of pedals......so what did I miss that you love? And used is totally cool. Save that money.

I play bass but the kids also play guitar and keyboard. I love fuzzy and glitchy things. Fuzzy synth sounds are my jam and I was always chasing the perfect fuzz-synth tone.

I love getting local stuff from other places. I miss traveling so anything from your area is cool. Love both coffee and tea. L in shirts. Gemini. Not necessarily into long walks on the beach but down for it if there's good convos. Totally into cuddles. That kinda stuff.

I feel you on the kids - as soon as the next baby started no sleeping I have not been able to pick up my axe as much as I would hope.

That and lack of sleep and shit

In all my years on ILF this is the first year I've done ILFSS.

My favorite thing about internet secret santas is sharing local staples with people from far off places so if you've got cool local products or treats send 'em my way! Im also into folks bands' and band merch.

I wear t shirts 100% of the time in life. Size is medium.

If you make any sort of gear thing that's always exciting.

Dear Satan,
I'm sorry I've been out of touch lately. It's been a busy time. I've been driving a lot and we bought a second house for my sister's family to live in and I just never have time on a computer anymore. Whenever I have fifteen idle minutes, I go into the music room and make some weird noise and ILF is still where my heart lives.
This seems like a good time for an inventory.
Here's what I'm using most of the time:
https://www.flickr.com/gp/oldangelmidnight/86n955
I'm happy to fill you in on what's what if you're curious. I just got a deal on a Spaceman Aurora and it's not represented.
These are some things that aren't in the regular lineup but I love them all nonetheless:
https://www.flickr.com/gp/oldangelmidnight/8KEw40
https://www.flickr.com/gp/oldangelmidnight/9D60k3
This is a little chain I set up to run a microphone through for my kids:
https://www.flickr.com/gp/oldangelmidnight/K3N3iL
In a quest to find a rhythmic accompaniment that sounds like a drum set being thrown down the stairs, I've started experimenting with synthy things:
https://www.flickr.com/gp/oldangelmidnight/F738u7
https://www.flickr.com/gp/oldangelmidnight/MA3VQ0

All I want for christmas is an oscillating motorboating fuzz with a momentary switch, or maybe something boring like decent headphones, a 15" speaker for my Bandmaster Reverb, or a little mixer module for the eurorack. I'd be happy with anything built by an ILF builder. Whatever I receive, I will cherish it forever. (Please no phasers.)

My tastes remain the same as previous years. I'm pescetarian and I like spicy things. I'll happily consume any alcoholic or non beverages or foods that are unique or typical of your local area. I almost certainly will never wear a regular cut tshirt. Most of my music listening happens via Apple Music and Bandcamp these days but I still have the vinyl setup for special times.

Most of my online time these days is on mobile and I sometimes chat on the collector/emitter discord. https://discord.gg/QQsR7kat
Sometimes the Superfluous Gearposting discord. https://discord.gg/vyGuDunp
Or TTMN
I'm Isobel (oldangelmidnight)#9885 on there.

Love you forever!

Musically I’ve been pretty stagnant for the last few years. Living where I do, it’s exceptionally expensive to buy and flip gear. So, I basically just hoard the things I have, and have been very careful about picking new gear. So, basically anything new would be fun to own at this point. I like fuzzy sounds, things that glitch, swoosh, swerve, beep, boop, and defy description. Traditionally cheesy phasers, phlangers, phuzzes, and would be welcome. Even if it’s something I’ve owned before (or currently own) I’ll love it. The bottom line is I’ll love anything I get. I’ll also post updates gear pics in all the relevant threads.

I love chocolate, but any special or regional treats would be highly welcome. The only candy I don’t like is black licorice. Salty snacks are also tasty.

My tastes outside of music stuff are mainly retro games, movies, and books. I like all thing horror and spooky, anything that’s weird and fun will undoubtedly make me smile. I also have a cat, but he hates all treats, he hates cat nip, and he hates all other animals.

Hi Santana.

I'm sorry I've been mostly out of the loop. I suck. My free time has been beyond minimal: I still have a Misty Cave (my second) I bought months ago that's still in the taped-up box it was shipped in. I still have the Mom-D tourbox that I haven't been able to use for the last six weeks. My drone skiff has been chilling (it's complete, no space for modules), living it's best life as the sound design shruti box it was built to be. I'm still a computer music nerd for the sound design-y stuff, but basically all of my music time has been back to being a bass player in a couple of bands for the first time in a decade or so.

See the NSFWs for specifics as I don't want to make the world's largest post.

Tl;Dr:
NSFW: show
No matter the medium I just like big low end you can go swimming in. I make it on the computer. I make it with bass guitars. I make it with synthesizers. It is good. Drone isn't cool anymore but musically it's still where I feel most comfortable. As far as aesthetic trappings it's mostly noise rock, older punk & post-punk, and metal (and reggae  ) but there are probably enough posts from me for you to figure that out.

Consumer Insights ᵀᴹ:
NSFW: show
The last physical record I bought (took me ages to find a physical copy):

The bandcamp collection:

Some books bought recently:

http://www.carlhiaasen.com/book-detail.shtml?bid=14

And some photo/art books books (first two are incidentally both on London, but I love anything and everything Ed Templeton from his skating to his photography):
https://photobookstore.co.uk/collection ... s-2-london
https://roughtradebooks.com/products/un ... jon-savage
https://www.vam.ac.uk/shop/tim-walker-w ... 58819.html

I am literally out of space for tee shirts  but it's a Size M if you find a great one.

Band stuff, pedals, etc:
NSFW: show
First band is kind of a doomy black metally band. My mental reference is somewhere between 11Paranoias, Terminal Cheesecake, and Black Cobra, unsure of how much that comes through. I'm always trying to convince CBS and goroth that more notes and fast riffs are the way of the devil, because I am a "four chords rubbish, three chords is ok, one chord best" person. Secretly I try to turn any band I'm in into Bong anyway, even if we're still playing "riffs" (and as such deviating from the one true way).

Bass board for that is:
* A Kowloon Walled Bunny (basically a DOD250/MXR Distortion+ variant... I have three of those kinds of pedals total, it's my favourite drive )

* DD500, the most versatile and bestest delay ever. I can program whatever I want with it. Glorious.

* For live jamming its the Nopesmoker (which is an LM308 Rat in parallel with a Lovetone Big Cheese [a big muff]) / and for demos etc it's an Elements because I can get away with cranking the gain in the box in a way that I can't with a hollowbody bass (too much feedback).

I used to use a custom Big muff I got from Schlatte in my very first secret Satan, and I might go back to it, but ultimately CBS has a comparatively low-gain guitar sound so having the bass be more noisy and aggressive fills out the riffs nicely. Also used a DOD Death Metal for a while, which sounded great but ultimately the super-compressed low end wasn't really working in the mix.

Into a Sansamp.

I have a big old vintage OR120 with an OBC115. It's the best bass rig ever (for me). I also live in a modest flat in a big ass city where everyone is on top of each other and that rig is still in the US because Covid fucked up my plans to go back and move it over in March of 2020 :( .

For the other band, which is kind of super minimal ala modern day Earth but with big distortion parts, it's the Nopesmoker/Rat again into a Clang for maximum blaaaargh. I don't play a hollowbody with this one, but instead a big old mudbucker SG. Sometimes I throw a Meatbox at the end of this chain because Meatbox just makes things sound better, especially with amps. Amp is either sansamp or whatever is kicking around in the various practice spaces
good deals are here.
escapecraft is here.

Hi, Satan! I'm afraid I'm not such a gear nut these days (at least when it comes to new schtuff), but since last year I lost another 50lbs, started eating fruit again, and dropped another shirt size (it's not big....it's Large)! I sold all my old clothes (but kept my shoes) and probably a copy of Hardware on blu-ray (or was it The Man Who Fell To Earth?), and maybe a lamp and bought a Nord Lead 2 rack, which is probably the best gear purchase I've made in a zillion years, even though I caught it during what has become the Eternal Reverb Gear Landslide Uptick of 2020-2021, in which all the prices are worse every new minute (can't say this will ever change, at least until that investment firm who bought a majority stake of Sweetwater start sending me Peekarama dvds again, like Chuck Surak used to in the VW van/Kurzweil days). Anywho, since the search function is always jacked when you absolutely need it to not be, I've been spending most of my internet time at ye olde Nord forums, trying to pry in the nooks and crannies for all the xsecretxknowledgex I can get for a 24 year old machine that sometimes gives me pause before I smash the power button (it's wired for UK, supplanted with a Radio Shack converter box that is probably 30 years old, married but swingle). Anways, to combat that age gap, I acquired a Microfreak (genuinely a goofy machine) and a Streichfett, all three partying hard in between a Boss BX mixer that I should probably upgrade to a Mackie VLZ something or other, or something else with channel mutes (it's a tuff life boogie), since that's what Sarah Belle Reid likes to jumble on with. Big controller is the M-Audio Keystation, which is more than efficient, but I sometimes do miss the squeakwincing of the Arturia Keystep, which I still use to fiddle with occasionally on the Volca FM or the 0-Coast, or elsewhere when I'm not bound to the Keystation.

I still rock the dual funtime quizshow kaboodle board (2 SSBS Minis, 2 DOD phasors, Dr. Sci Dusk (just one!), Zvex Ringtone, DOD BiFet, Fuzzhugger Algal Bloom, SSBS Pretty Years and Boss DD-5) for guitar and bass, into a Peavey amp, and out into the mixer (and a compressor, somewhere, right?). While I loved my Yamaha FB-01 setup in the past (usually two, as well, because, y'know, synergy), Nord and co. have taken the reigns and I have never bean happier, honestly. I still love the clunk of the FB-01 forever, but I also like not leaning so hard into those sounds all the time, but really I love being able to turn dedicated knobs, most of all, maybe above all else. I still have my trusty SP-202 on the side for extra fun, but I might phase it out before it completely stops working (can't believe I've had it this long, honestly).

Biggest GAS I've had recently has been for the older/biggle'd Elektron machines (extreme pipe dreams), but the workflow honestly almost brings me to tears. But basically turning a Digitakt into a monster controller seems divine, especially with that other (angel or devil) on my shoulder....the Nord Drum series (1 or 3, because we all know 2 is officially Out Of Everyone's Pricerange). Or a big dedicated sequencer! However, something practical like the Zoom H recorder series is probably going to happen, even though I do like recording things into my old IPhone 6S, since I should probably start sharing things sooner than later before society meets it's inevitable collapse. Also I waste too much time with multitrack tape recorders, but I also hate computers?!? Can't wait to livestream a mono tape recording someday, at this point!

I love all crazy fuzzes and modulations (percs, ring mizzods, deeelays, zingers, 4ms clingers), all gear has its uses, and I am not going near modular (sans the 0-Coast!) anytime soon (unless it's a Nord Micro, but then I'd have to run Windows 9 and that means a laptop, and I hate sitting at the computer anyway). I love to watch movies, sometimes I buy them (especially if they're in the dollar bin), same goes for weird DVDs and CDs (I have too many, but I'd always love more), sometimes I even go to the movies (I saw Titane, and it was.....just OK?). Last truly great movie I saw was Arkansas, directed by the one and only Clark Duke. Last record I bought on Bandcamp was Raise Your Voice Joyce, the last famous person that I wish hadn't died so soon was Michael K. Williams (RIP), last great thing I read was Emma Goldman's Anarchism: What It Really Stands For, and the last pedal I bought was a Digitech Screamin' Blues for $25 (that dry out always does wonders).

I'd love to hear your music, art, regional seasonal highlights, postcards from far out places, magic tricks, etc. - whaddya got?

I love dark chocolate and sardines, sometimes I still eat bread (also: Man I Love Bread), and don't drink any caffeine because I also officially have teh glaucoma (but don't smoke: a conundrum in a legalized land). I do not love paying ransom amounts for eye drugs, Electro Harmonix current generation builds (big aluminum boxes are OK, though), flipper syndrome, the glass ceiling, whatever Kevin Hart seems to be doing to try and borrow my time, fringe leather jackets, mustache wax or girdles. I hope that helps!
