Amp+Cab in a peddle! who be win, who be lose, we find out

Alright peeps, let's sort this shit out.

Looking to find the winner of the pedal sized amps that have amp and cab sims inside of them, allowing you to record directly that ACTUALLY SOUND GOOD WITH DIRT IN FRONT.


So far what we've got (I'll update as more are mentioned) in no specific order:

Orange terror stamp:


DSM noisemaker & humb Simplifier:


Strymon iridium:


Neunaber Iconoclast ("just" cab sim, does this work with preamp/gain pedals in front?):


Torpedo Cab M:


Shift Line Twin mk3:


Walrus Audio amp &cab sim:

What we're looking for here is something that allows our setup to become guitar>pedals>[insert this thing]>recording or headphones, and it should sound juicy as duck when we're hitting it with our most beloved insane dirt pedals.

* I will buy the winner and I will tell you if it was indeed a winner.
The race begins, and so does my saving up to get one of these, because i'm always broke, but i'd do anything for amp+cab in a peddle, but I won't do computer sims, no I won't do that.

the reason for this thread is to hear from what you crazy people have done to these things so far, because i'm not sure i trust the paid youtube reviewers or people who just want that john mayer sound. Sludge doom metal? Noise post-modern synth rock? Can any of these keep up with insane dirts and sounds without turning to digital garbage (the bad kind, and not the bad kind that's the good kind of bad, just the bad)

I would have added the quilter interblock to the discussion but if you really want to go direct, it is not the best. Sounds great through a cab thought. Maybe if you buy a cab sim like the neunaber ?

Does Milkman's The Amp have direct out ? I think so, you might want to consider it.

Also remember that something like the humbold simplifier does not have a power amp. So if you want to play through a cab you'll need one. Might be the same for the strymon ?
For a cheap power amp, I really like the interblock (which is also a preamp and has an fx loop, so you can bypass it and go straight to the power amp)

good shit, however:

The intention is to find a one-box solution to the headphones/direct in problem (coupled with dirt as main focus), so we're not gonna look at pairing solutions. However some of these cab sims sound pretty good direct, so I won't discount them based on their name/occupation if they do indeed work great straight in.

Milkmans the amp costs way more than the rest, 700$. The rest here hover around 150-400$ (I'm assuming the strymon is 400ish).

Yeah some of these aren't amps as such, so if that's the use case then some might shine brighter than others here.


To further clarify: I can get awesome toanz with dirt into my digitech cabdryVR recorded direct in and then EQ'd a bit, but it's a very awesome nine-inch-nails-direct-in toan, there are always some very dominating frequencies, whereas my amp sounds crunchy and crushery and beautiful and smooth and jagged. That's where we want to go.

Don't know how the preamp reacts to pedals tbh, but regarding the cab Sim part somebody here had the Shift Line cabzone and was super happy with it.

I have been using the Darkglass element

It checks all the boxes with the execption that its only a cab sim at the moment but they did add some basic head sim adjustments you can fuck with as well

I've looked at this before, even though it doesn't say it's an amp/pre-amp sim you consider it good enough when running dirt pedals straight into it?
