Starting up a thread to talk about phasers. :snax:

I've seen a few isolated posts and threads about particular phasers, but maybe this can be a place for those stray phaser thoughts/questions/whooshes/spurts :idk:

What do people favor?

What's more important, the toanz or the wiggles?

Lower stage count - 2 or 4 for the subtle throbbs?

Is there a discernible difference between a 2 stage phaser and a harmonic tremolo?

Super whooshy high stage counts for the sky swoopz?

When does a phaser start to sound more like a flanger (and no, I don't mean Univibe - that *is* a flanger)

What's your state of the phaser? What's the ultimate?

I used to be a phaser phanatic, but lately I've been looking elsewhere for my modulation needs....

I'm interested in this Duncan Polaron - anybody here get one?

Someday maybe I'll get my Horizont fix'd and I'll tell you about that

My alltime faves so far: Empress, Subdecay DLX, Whetstone, Modmax, Ghost Fax....

Any reason for me to dig further, or should I just move along? :idk: :snax:

:poke:

i like my old phase 45 and the moogerfooger phase... Ive tried others including the wetstone... Never really cared for any of them...

For me... Speed is important and bigness... Tone.. I hate brightness... I hate phase 90s....

For your future? Find you a mooger, everything else will seem small and insignificant..

Only Phaser i had are an old Small Stone when I started playing a couple decades ago, and the Whetstone 1 decade ago, and I remember selling it because I used it 99% of time in Ring mode with super fast settings. Guess I'm not much a phaser person. Not going to give it another try until the next decade.

What do people favor?
Infanem Compact Faye Sing

What's more important, the toanz or the wiggles?
both! :animal:

Lower stage count - 2 or 4 for the subtle throbbs?
Both are good! 2 can sometimes be too subtle so I like having the option of 2 or 4.

Is there a discernible difference between a 2 stage phaser and a harmonic tremolo?
Probably? I think I can hear one :idk:

Super whooshy high stage counts for the sky swoopz?
Heck yeah

When does a phaser start to sound more like a flanger (and no, I don't mean Univibe - that *is* a flanger)
Lots of stages and high feedback I guess. Not really thought about it

What's your state of the phaser? What's the ultimate?
Recently got a Compact Faye Sing after very foolishly selling mine years ago. It's my current and my ultimate. Best thing about it aside from the basic tone being excellent is all the options!!! Stage options, speed ranges, mix control, really good depth/range controls, manual possible. :excellent:

 :thumb:

echorec, that is...inspiring!

We have some crossover, but I am a dilettante compared to you.... :)*

I see you are stereo ready with a few of them :thumb:
and def a few I am curious about (4MS, Doppelganger, Mutron jumped right up and slapped me in the 3rd eye).
Also - what is the beastie above the Infanem? :snax: :snax:

Also also, did the crap demos permaquench any GAS for the Polaron? :snax: :poke:

Also, CBS, thank you for the detailed and entertaining response. :D

I think Blackened came close to the thread kill right out the gate, but overall, my phaser GAS lives. :p

2-stage phasers is my shit but it's a tone thing to me not an effect, kinda like using chorus to fatten up things instead of awesome 80s metal/husker du tones. I dont even know if it counts as phaser though cause i run it full wet to ad some WHONK.

Green Russian Small Stone all the way.

when talking phaser the sadly discontinued BEZ Street Sweeper will always hold a special place in my heart, a different take on a classic effect, that opened up worlds of swoosh woosh foot control for wah-dislikers like me.
I don't think I would ever sell mine.
