Educate me on the Boss FZ-2

Postby Willem » Sun Jan 24, 2016 5:47 pm

Hi guys,

That's a pedal I often see in the board thread.
Is this one 'ILF appeoved' pr something like that?
I found one not so expansive, 60€ I dunno if that's cheap for this pedal, I don't think so, it seems to have some fans out there.
I'll maybe give it a try, just wanted to have some feedback from the users.
I'm not a big fan of Boss pedals, I had a lot of them when I built my first pedalboard but sold them all. I know have a LS-2 as utility tool, sold the DD-500 after a week spent with it.
So...

Thanks :snax:

Based on a Superfuzz, but rad nonetheless!

They're more than rad.

I tried replacing mine with several 'good' superfuzz clones that were twice the price of the FZ-2, and a lot closer to vintage FY-6 specs...

But the FZ-2 adds a bit of gnarl on top of what the typical vintage correct superfuzz gives you. It's a bit less sputtery, but ut's more menacing and gainy.
It cuts through a loud messy mix better than any other style fuzz I tried, it shit all over fuzzface and muff type fuzz pedals in that regard.

The only reason not even more people go apeshit over the FZ-2, is that it's an easily available cheap Boss peddle that's been around for ages. Less than $100 for a rock solid superfuzz on steroids that comes with a 2 band parametric eq, two fuzz modes as well as a stupid loud clean boost mode...What's not to love? :idk:

60Euro seems fair. You might come across another one that's 5euro cheaper if you look around, but for 60euro you could easily buy it, try it, and flip it with no loss in case you don't bonde with it.

Buy it! 60 EUR is a great price. The FZ-2 makes my guitar SING! Mode I is awesome and Mode II is absolutely crazy in the best sense. You can always sell it on for a good price. The Hyper Fuzz is pretty sought-after these days.

They're good but not for everybody. I got one and traded it, the mode 2 that people like is far too metal for me and the pedal had far too much gain for what I want. If you do like fuzz with tons of gain you'll be happy though :).

What D.o.S. said.

I love it and it never leaves my board.

Cheap, too.

Basically if you're looking for sonic oblivion it's a great.

If you don't like it, it's usually because it was too much for your sound.

Chords do not play nice, they just come out like giant distorted bass blobs.

For very simple powerchords it's Electric Wizard in a box, yeah.

Like listen to "Funeralopolis" and that's what you're gonna get.
