I just want for channel 1/4 to be v/oct tracking and channel 2/3 to be VCA's as well as attenuverters, instead of cramming it down.
I think 16 hp is as good as you're gonna get without losing i/o and keeping the knobs the same size, 14 might be doable with micro knobs.
Cramming it down there is probably not worth it, but it could be a good idea to put the i/o on top entirely and knobs on the bottom so you can tweak without cables getting in the way.

I'm kind of surprised they've never updated it to have VCAs on channel 2/3. That would be an amazing amount of added functionality without any huge changes. I would assume making channel 1/4 v/oct tracking would be a much bigger revision.

As for the size, I honestly wouldn't want it much smaller that 18hp. Maybe 16hp. I really don't like the micro knobs and I'd rather have some space to get my sausage fingers in there

to add VCA's on the 1/4 channels they'd have to add another input per channel, to add v/oct tracking they wouldn't have to change anything on the interface.
Other dual slope generators already do this, although some are fully digital (ritual electronics anima), there's the DUSG from random serge that tracks and is analog, I believe.

In my opinion, adding VCAs feels more like a simple addition to the existing circuit; there's lots of room at 20hp for a couple more jacks and they have lots of VCA circuit from which they could borrow. Making channels 1/4 track v/oct feels more like a full rewrite since it would require revisions to the core of Maths. I honestly don't know what would be required though, maybe it is a simple change, but if it is then it's kind of odd they've never bothered :idk:

put it into something that can give you squarewaves; a comparator gives you a squarewave of your guitar signal, that you can then plug into the sync input of your oscillator. voy vey! homemade pitch tracking!

stuff that I know that does this is envelope followers like maths that can give you end of rise or end of fall out for the square, there's also a comparator in the cold mac if you have one.
If you have a PLL it's solved already.

But none of these is midi guitar tracking, indeed

This is a good point! Glitchy funtimes tracking :animal:

I think they'd just have to change how the "both" input tracks? Tune it a bit, sort of. This might be super duper easy or very difficult, but I'd put my money on doable but why do it when people are still buying maths.

I mean, I don't have maths. :idk: Other manufacturers are ever creeping on its toes with their own full featured function generators, often times with a lot of great functionality that Maths doesn't have, like the previously mentioned 1v/oct tracking. I like the UX of Maths, but I'm not wasting a fifth of my HP for it.

Well I'm kind of sold on the Ritual Electronics now:

To be honest it does look pretty good in general. It's missing all of the middle section of Maths, but it looks like the envelopes are much more full featured than Maths

I was thinking of the endorphin.es Airstreamer, but those two too! I have Ritual Electronics Guillotine on the way. :snax:

Yeah I have the Anima and I totally love it. It is VERY cool having two extra VCOs that track extremely well and genuinely sound great. And it is also great at the usual slope generator stuff it does as well. And this is a kinda minor picky thing but the build quality and the knobs feels SO SOLID and that makes it nice to use. haha :animal:

Hmm, the Anima might be the way I go now. I was also planning on grabbing a Mutable Shades; Anima + Shades would get pretty close to the functionality of Maths. I would just need to get a comparator and some logic? Maybe Mutable Kinks? I guess we'll see what I can find :idk:

Just thing to keep in mind is that it's more envelope-y and focussed on that rather than maths. e.g. there's no signal input so you can't slew things or process inputs in the same way, it just eats gates. In terms of envelopes/LFOs/VCOs though it is very full featured and really good. Up to you whether you care about this.

yes. So you can still turn... stuff into smoooooooth voltage but it won't actually track it. This could still probably be achieved with some sort of workaround where you mult the original signal to a VCA and feed the anima output into the VCA and tune the VCA response so the output voltage is close enough to call it tracking but at this point.... my brain hurts

moof. too deep for me. i'm a shallow modular user for sure.

got that Chaos hitting tomorrow though!

and setting up a new fast as butt butts desktop tower today before i upgrade to Live 11.

it was TIME. my pc is still solid, but it's about 6 years old? started to take 45 to 60 seconds to load some racks or VSTs. not horrible, but breaks up the flowwwwwww.

Yeah, lots to think about with Maths v. Anima. I'm not sure how much I'd end up using the slew functionality in Maths, so I think Anima would still be a pretty decent contender. We'll see what's available when I'm actually looking to buy something. I still need to wait for the HEK and Beads to show up. I'll probably be looking to get some envelopes in the summer around when the Clank Chaos will be available.

Not the same philosophy, but Zadar is also hot, and what I'm angling to get once half of the modules out right now aren't fucking unobtanium because of covid.

Guillotine arrived and I'm in love with it, distorting an otherwise very standard modular eno in a box patch and making it sound like Grouper. :snax:
