Doesn't sound like the fat stopped a bullet at all. I'm sure she still would have bled out without proper medical attention.

Maybe if she hadn't been bending space time the bullet would never have gotten caught up in her gravitational well and it would have missed her in the first place. Why do they give voice to these idiots? It's like listening to the innermost musings of a nematode on how the world works.

What's not funny is the lack of caliber designated in the article. A .22LR, 25 auto, or even a .380 HP will not have much penetration at 20 yards. Some ammunition is designed not to penetrate even a sheet-rock wall.

And if she didn't have the love handles the bullet probably would have missed her completely by at least 3 pant sizes.

Well, it's true. The article says she was a by-stander which means the assailant didn't intend on shooting her. I'm assuming it also means she wasn't very close so 20 yards isn't far fetched. There is ammunition designed to disintegrate on impact for people living in apartment buildings and such so they don't accidentally shoot their neighbors. Who's to say the guy even knew what kind of ammo was in the gun?
Besides, bullets don't like water. Myth Busters will tell you even the most powerful guns on earth will not penetrate very deeply into standing water. What is fat made of? The bullet would need to travel through probably 12 inches of fat to get to that ladies organs.
