Weird Craigslist story

So I was visiting my parents the other day and my dad was telling me about this couch he was thinking about buying on Craigslist. The guy's in Pennsylvania (same as us), and is selling a new couch (still in factory packing).
He'd asked some questions about it to make sure it was brand new, etc, and only got quick answers from the guy's Blackberry. He asked the guy how he came to have a brand new couch, and the guy didn't answer...he instead asked for my dad's number and said he'd call him about it.
My dad said to me, "I wish this guy would just give me some story. I don't care what, but just let me know how he got stuck with this brand new couch. So he bought it and then got divorced, or his grandma bought it and then died...just something!"
So my dad wrote back and asked him again to just let him know how he came to get the couch.
Here's what the guy replied with:
"It is brand new. Bought it because I believe God wanted me to buy it for reasons unclear, but potentially preparing me for the future in some way. Faith, I have read, does not mean contradicting human logic, but transcending (going beyond) it - and that is the spirit in which I bought it and a lot of other furniture/other items, which I am now in the process of trying to sell."

Confessions becuz i was looking for something to read while on the crapper & "somehow" the book had fallen from the bedside-stack. & well. i mean: i took a MASSIVELY huge&long shit late this evening whilst reading Saint Augustine.

I don't think so. That response is just too freaky.
We all had a good laugh, though! I think the best part was, "I believe God wanted me to buy it for reasons unclear, but potentially preparing me for the future in some way." See? God
does have a sense of humor! ...making some dude buy a bunch of couches he didn't even need.

this doesn't really
bother me, but not too long ago I did a trade with a guy on TGP who ended every message with "be blessed" and then when it was all wrapped up "the lord smiles on you, for you are a good soul"
like... uhhh... thanks! same to you...?

TGP's full of those guys. Didn't you see all the jesus fish <>< sigs until recently?
The 'bother' thing is always a one-way street -- You can be damn sure it'd have bothered him and you'd have gotten a reprimand (and the deal would've died) if you'd signed all your emails with Allahu Akbar or a quote from Richard Dawkins.
or this
"
There is something feeble and a little contemptible about a man who cannot face the perils of life without the help of comfortable myths. Almost inevitably some part of him is aware that they are myths and that he believes them only because they are comforting. But he dare not face this thought! Moreover, since he is aware, however dimly, that his opinions are not real, he becomes furious when they are disputed."

THOUSANDS of people have flocked to a Roman Catholic church on the French Indian Ocean island of Reunion after believers said they saw the "face of Christ" in the pleats of a church cushion.
Church officials limited access to the Jesus-Misericordieux church in eastern Saint-Andre's Cambuston district to a few minutes per visitor as traffic in the area ground to a halt.
Believers and curious onlookers pulled out cameras to take pictures of the cushion attached to the priest's chair.
Antoinette, an 82-year-old parishioner, said the face was a "divine phenomenon" as tears welled up her eyes.

That's not actually anti-christian, sammy. That's just Saint Peter's cross, and is actually a very holy symbol. I'll spare you guys the explanation as to why. To be anti-christian, you'd have to hang an actual crucifix with jesus on it upside down. THAT would piss people off.
