well, that's good news. a Staytrem bridge would make my Squier CVJM just about perfect.

This is exciting news, though I could've sworn they used to have a bridge to replace an AOM/TOM (i.e, on my Mascis), but I don't seem to see one...

Why would the Jaguar/JM bridge not work?

It's beyond me, but the website is very clear that it will not work. Maybe they just mean "without a little effort"? Wasn't there once a version that just dropped in?

Oh right I can't read. Yeah well, IDK about that. If you measure the distance between the bridge post holes and the size of the holes I can let you know? I have a jag that I bought with a TOM (but non-original) and swapped a staytrem, so I could measure the staytrem for you to check.

If you look on google for "j mascis jazzmaster + staytrem" there's a few threads on OSG and reddit, looks possible?

My sense is that they definitely USED to make a drop-in replacement, but maybe don't anymore.

And thanks for the offer - I've got about a thousand other things to occupy my brain at the moment, but will certainly take you up on that when I have room to contemplate it.

They used to make a drop-in replacement and before that they made replacement thimbles.

TOM offsets, to install a Mastery/Staytrem/regular offset bridge, you have to dowel the existing thimble holes and re-drill IIRC.

Yeah you might have to if the holes are totally the wrong size. Hard to tell though without the measurements haha.

are there no adapters to convert TOM studs to a Jazzmaster/Jaguar bridge plate?

IDK this just all sounds weird to me. As I said I have a jag that has what is as far as I know a normal TOM on it when I got it. The holes clearly haven't been messed with before that was put in. Then I swapped for a staytrem, no mods required. :idk: So I'm not sure what the difference is supposed to be that needs adapting to.

This is Mastery's spiel re: why you have to dowel and re-drill, the same stuff applies for Staytrem - who used to make a drop-in replacement but don't anymore unfortunately. Or else I'd be hunting for a cheap Mascis.
Guitars fitted with AOM/TOM bridges have threaded body thimbles that must be replaced with standard ones in order for our bridge to work. The J Mascis Jazzmaster with a TOM requires drilling holes in the pickguard to accommodate standard Jazzmaster body thimbles.

AOM/TOM style bridges were not originally designed/intended for use on Offset style guitars with vibratos. Post spacing, post size, bushing size and tolerances vary greatly on these mostly Korean made bridges and we do not make threaded style mounting posts as they do not function as well as standard USA style thimbles with our original post design. Korean specs and tolerances are constantly changing and we do not follow Korean made hardware. Our USA spec size, unplated solid stainless thimbles fit the inside diameter of our M1 bridge perfectly but are not drop in replacements for guitars previously fitted with AOM/TOM bridges as AOM/TOM bridges are a completely different design.

AOM bridges require you to dowel and drill for our standard USA thimbles.

REPEAT: We only make one vintage USA spec size thimble, if you currently have a threaded post bridge design on your guitar you will need to convert it to accept our USA spec thimbles. For more information on our thimbles visit our specs page. It is recommended a luthier replace these if you are unfamiliar with the process. It’s not very time consuming.

Just curious - which Jaguar came with a TOM and a regular tailpiece on it?
