Hmm... sounds like tabloid 'political correctness gone mad' haven't heard anything of it in the news.
A few months back there was a whole fuss about them enforcing the metric system onto pubs so they had to sell half litres and litres... haven't heard anything of it since.
I doubt it would happen, people are always complaining about drinking and fighting here but theres more old people that would complain pint glasses were part of our heritage

not to be southernist... but it's mainly the north of England that causes things like this, down here in the south I only ever see pint glasses smashed on the floor, fights are usually carried out with fists, plus the sensible pubs make you drink up or put your drink in a plastic glass for the way home so it isn't smashed on the way out or stolen... a much better idea.
Then again... our government does have some stupid plans... as do the ones looking to move into power... hopefully it'll just fade away like the ID card scheme which in the words of a comedian here "I've lost my wallet... I'm gunna new eye balls and a finger tip transplant"#
Still pisses me off just to think someone is thinking about it though... I want smoking back in pubs aswell and I don't even smoke! Far as I see it... you don't want to breathe in smoke, you could do with the fresh air outside more than the smoker who is content inside, pubs smelt alot better too, they just smell of stale booze now.
Edit: I just thought of another reason why this wouldn't come in... you have to pay for plastic bags in a lot of shops now to save on reycling, enviromentalists would go mad if they started using plastic glasses in pubs as they wont be reuseable like glass ones and even if they were hard plastic, you can bet people would steal them more often than there glass counterpart but at the end of the day, aslong as my glass is full of something cold and alchoholic.. and they don't jack the price up even higher to cover new glass costs or taxes or something (£3.50 a pint in some places now! cheapest is £2.20) i'm happy.

If this were to happen, it would be absolutely ridiculous. Yes, I'm an American (I live here, so why not?), but my heritage is mostly centered in Britain and Northern Ireland (I'd love to know how that came about...), and this just... I don't know. Glass pints in a pub is a major symbol to a lot of people. It's part of the culture, and part of what draws people there (whether tourists or what have you)... the whole atmosphere of the ol' GB.
I don't know if what I'm trying to say here makes any sense, absolute lack of sleep non-withstanding, but hopefully somebody gets it. I know I'd certainly feel let down, when I finally make a venture across the pond, if I were served a goddamn plastic pint!

I think this is all a bunch of shite!!!! What's next you can't have Hurleys or Cricket Bats? A person who wants to cause trouble will use anything readily available.....

Yup it's shit... and now they're putting the taxes up on cheap booze to stop teenagers buying it, so I have to pay more now.
As I said though it wont go through... they should focus on other things like the police spending most of there time filling in forms rather than actually doing anything and when they do get round to it, picking and choosing what they think is worth while to keep there statistics up.
