What kind of food are you in the mood for and how far do you want to travel? :snax:

I used to like drinking at Billy Mark's west at 29th and 9th when i was in NYC. I haven't been in like 9 years but it had an awesome jukebox of mix CDs and you usually got free drinks if you weren't a jerk and tipped well enough. For food I am no help unless you wanna check out Juniper in Williamsburg. It's a great small neighborhood place with bbq and 1 or 2 vegetarian options. Cheap, cash only and BYOB.

I ate at a legit restaurant in Chinatown, though I don't remember the name of it.. but yeah bring cash. Almost every restaurant we passed was cash only.

I've only been once for a week and had a bunch of nice food, but the best place we ate was Hangawi on East 32nd st. Super amazing veggie Korean food (and I took my meat eating family and they liked it as much as I did if you need a non veggie review  ).

Recommended to me by drod, he is a man with the good NYC recs.

Pretty much anything USHG is great, albeit pricey and somewhat overhyped. Except for Shakeshack, which is just nasty, overpriced, and all hype. Tabla and the Bread Bar was the crown jewel in the empire and are missed.

Pizza. Without question it's gotta be Patsy's on 1st ave. Since you're in El Barrio grabbing that slice, might as well wander around and get some decent tacos and carnitas as well - I'm partial to the El Aguila at 103rd & Lex, El Paso across the street near the corner of 104th, and El Nuevo Caribeno at the corner of 105th. Want to keep stretching your legs - go over to 106th and Park to hit the Graffiti Hall of Fame, then over to 5th ave to grab an ice cream before heading into the botanical gardens.

If you do go to Patsy's and eat in, you have to eat under the portrait of Frank. If you grab a pie and are in a car, you go sit in the cul de sac at the end of 118, say hi to the cats and the chickens, and pay homage to the stoop where Sonny beat the everlivingfuck out of Carlo.

If someone is cruel enough to drag you into brooklyn, try to head down towards ikea. Red Hook Park, just to the east, has some of the best food trucks in the city - especially if you dig food from Ecuador or Honduras. And the Fairway Market on the other side of ikea usually has the cheapest prices on Iceland water in the city.

If you're into chocolate Maison Du Chocolat > everyone else. The location on Madison near 79th is less likely to be tourist heavy.

Sprinkles isn't worth waiting in line for, but the ATM is fun - if it's open, the were renovating last time I went back - in the wee hours.

Mrs Doommeow swears by Cookshop on 10th Ave. It's fine, but the highline crowd bugs me. They have an acceptable scotch list and usually a few sorbets. In that neighborhood, I'd rather hit The Ol' Homestead. Worth it even if you're on a budget - just get the bacon, a single malt, and the cheesecake or the strudel.

And, of course, Grays papaya is still OG.

Katz's Deli on Houston. My first stop every time before even checking into my hotel. Oldest deli in America and the best.

Quick list of places I miss:

Punjabi
Crif Dogs (East Village location)
Mamoun's for falafel
Russ & Daughters
Katz (expensive but way worth it for the pastrami, imo)
John's Pizza on Bleecker (but really just any of the decent corner pizza places that are everywhere)
Same goes for egg & cheese on a roll, pretty much at any decent bodega
Panya (great little Japanese bakery/coffee shop, East Village)

Went to Katz’s for the first time when I was in NY last month. It was a fun experience with the ordering and ticket. The pastrami was great. I’d give it a 5 for 5 on the Arby’s beef n cheddar scale.

Half a pastrami sandwich, bowl of split pea soup is a nice way to go, if you wanna be mobile for the rest of the day.

I seriously don't know how anyone eats a whole. :idk:

Superiority Burger in the East Village is worth the trek, especially if you're into things like tofu fried tofu, exquisite seasonal sorbet, & humility.
