Project Gutenberg is a great resource for older out-of-copyright books. And some newer ones. But I use it to download loads of classic books, totally free.

Not clued up on discounted/free modern stuff but all the sites you can download ebooks from usually have a free section.

libgen.io has an enormous selection, make sure you select the appropriate category when you search
go with MUBI files
use Calibre to organize/transfer to your Kindle over USB

I've recently started getting free ebooks via my public library. Depending on the system your library uses, it might be compatible with the Kindle.
