School me on VPNs

Want to be able to use public wifi and take stress off my data plan. I gather that doing this without VPN is no bueno.

Don’t care about concealing crime or nefarious shit, just some privacy and operational security.

What should I be looking at?

What are you wanting to do on public wifi? If it's anything more than just casual browsing (i.e. streaming), it might be painfully slow/borderline unusable, at least in my experience.

Nuts. Was looking to be able to download movies or Spotify for offline playback during travel. I guess a little browsing is better than nothing.

I use private VPN myself for the same reasons you do. Annual fee, works great, haven't noticed any slow downs. Feel like that would have more to do with your setup if speed was an issue (im using a wired connection ATM).

So yea, its good. I like it.

I think I used ProXPN or something when I had a VPN service and video buffering was significantly slow. Maybe it depends on the VPN?

I use AirVPN to watch in market baseball games I can't see on mlb.tv

It works, and it's acceptably priced.

Probably? Not sure. Never had issues on my end so it may very well be down to the provider.

wow privateVPN looks to be about half as much as the Express VPN plan I was on

I use it mostly for travel since I can't access my dropbox when in China, May switch to privateVPN based on the cost.

I use NordVPN and it's excellent for streaming and downloading totally legal movies and games which I already have physical copies of.

Also it's like 3bux a month.
