my least favorite time of the year that isn't Valentines' Day. i live alone in a city where i really don't have any friends other than co-workers with whom you can't get TOO close for fear of jeopardizing your employment. all my family are dead other than one brother who i don't talk to because he was really shitty to me as a kid. and i'm hella broke right now, because i spent too much money going to shows this year and got so behind on my bills that it's gonna take two months of starvation before i'm even caught up. i just can't muster up any warm, gemutlich feelings. the only time i feel good any more is when my cat cuddles up on my pillow and i can rest my cheek on her fur. anybody else wish it was mid-January already?

Xmas is a great excuse to reach out to your brother, if you are interested, where it’s “neutral territory.” Obviously I know nothing about either of your lives, but I know three people that won’t be here next Christmas, and they all have said that they were closer with their families.

Not being cheery in a season of gaslighted cheer is not a crime. The best version of these winter light festival holidays is to try to be open, friendly, and caring, with a lot of bright lights, because a lot of us are bummed out by the cold short days and can use a boost. The TV version is a fraud. But I’m glad my fuzz family is around and I wish you all well, though I know that even if I could give you each a Lexus it won’t fix everything.

Now let’s go burn a church and adjust our HM-2’s appropriately.

to all of you, especially those of you who are feeling lonely. I spent some very lonely holidays when I was younger, I remember how bad it is. I hope all of you can find some way to have a little happiness today - read, write, play some music, go see a movie, do anything but wallow in those bad feelings.

I was pretty low this time last year, so I know it sucks. Things get better though.

well, i tried talking with my only remaining friend on the phone, but it was just depressing. back when i was suicidal she actually listened to me, but nowadays she goes off on long ranty tangents where i have to hold the phone away from my ear. i guess that's what i get for being friends with someone who is literally not sane. i'm going to try to go to sleep now, and not think about how all my holidays will be like this for the rest of my life.

Sorry you're having a rough time of it and I might feel the same way under those circumstances. I can't say that I can really relate to being in that situation.

I actually really did dislike it for a while when I working in retail. You get sapped of any holiday joy pretty damned quickly. Not religious myself but grew up in a churchgoing household, so Christmas was always a big deal growing up.

I wish that people could be this kind towards each other (generally speaking) and charitable towards the less fortunate year-round instead being that way for just a few weeks because "it's the holidays".

As I've matured, I like Christmas less for the whole gift-giving thing than the opportunity to see extended family that I don't get to see very often.
